Silk Peel Dermalinfusion treatment at Revival Clinic

Monday, December 12, 2016 Liyana Hanim 0 Comments

To be honest, I haven’t had a proper facial in quite some time. All the facials that I’ve had throughout my life has been at spas and not at a proper skin clinic. So, I was ecstatic when Revival Clinic invited me over to try one of their facial treatment last week.

Having a clear complexion is something that I strive for but I still get some acne from time to time..even at the age of 29! I was hoping that Revival Clinic would help me out with my current skin condition (pigmentation, redness and acne).
-->

I went to the outlet located at Kota Kemuning which was only 15 minutes from my house. When I arrived there, I was greeted warmly by the receptionist and then there was only a short form that I had to fill up.

I saw on their wall that the doctor have many accolades within the dermatology field..so I knew that I was in good hands! I was then brought to see Doctor Jeff Khoo. I took a picture of the doctor but somehow, my camera apparently didn’t capture it. -_-.

Anyway, the doctor assessed my complexion, because he will need to choose which was the right facial treatment for my skin condition.

I like how he was very honest about what works for my skin. He told me that for acne, the best remedy is taking medicine. But of course there will be some side effect depending on your body..i.e: dry patches etc. He then said that because I have a few pimples, he recommended the Silk Peel treatment as it’s gentle and non-evasive for my skin.

I have combination skin and it’s a bit sensitive as well. The Silk Peel treatment was the right one as it’s a facial that can be done every week and doesn’t leave your skin looking red at all. Compare to say, microdermabrasion, which is harsh on the skin, Silk Peel can be done on even the most sensitive skin type.

Dr Khoo saw that I have one big pimple on my forehead that he said he can jab it..I was like..alright!

I was whisked away to the treatment room. They started by cleansing my face and then they started with the Silk Peel treatment. It felt like a tiny vacuum was hovering my face. Haha. I didn’t feel any pain at all but I can feel that my face was being “cleaned”.

They did half of my face first to show me the result and I was so surprised!! My skin looks so much brighter. You can learn more about what is the Silk Peel Dermalinfusion facial via this link: http://revivalclinic.com.my/silk-peel-dermalinfusion/. Btw, they did the treatment twice on my skin and that's how it works. Below is a video of the treatment on me:

After the Silk Peel, Dr Khoo came and jab my two pimples ( I swear to god that they shrink and disappear the next day! Amazing!). They then use an oxygen treatment on my face which was sooo awesome and refreshing. The last step was putting on a face mask. Before I left, they applied moisturizer and sunscreen on my face.

Overall, I can honestly say that it was THE BEST FACIAL I’ve had and I love it as it didn’t leave my face looking red from extraction as there wasn’t any! My face looks so much brighter, feel so smooth and clean. I highly recommend those out there who wants to get a better-looking skin. It’s a worthy investment and rest assured that you are in good hands with Dr Jeff Khoo and his staffs.

Fiq's Gastronomy (new menu) review!

Monday, November 14, 2016 Liyana Hanim 0 Comments

I love food! And when I go out to eat and spend my hard earned money, I like to eat somewhere where the food is really good. My parents always tell me that never hesitate on spending your money on good food. Which is what I usually do. haha

If you follow me on instagram, you'd know that one of my favourite places to eat is at Fiq's Gastronomy. It's located at SS19 in Subang and the space is very spacious. They have a surau there for Muslims to be able to pray comfortably(it's air-conditioned).

I know the owner/chef and I can vouch that the amount of hard work, passion and love is apparent in any of the dishes that you order there.

Chef Syafiq studied at the prestigious Johnson and Wales University in Providence, Rhode Island and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Culinary & Food Service Management. He did a vigorous training with 3 Michelin Star Chef Jean Gorges at his flagship restaurant in New York City of the same name and James Beard award nominee Chef Jonathan Cambra.

With that kind of credentials, you know that you'll have a great meal! Fiq's Gastronomy even works closely with local purveyors/farmers and source some of their ingredients like soft shell crab, oyster mushrooms and many more from them.

At Fiq's they make their OWN salted beef, bread, butter, fries, waffles and many more. The amount of dedication that they put when making your food for you, justifies the price that you're paying.

Before I ramble on even further, let me show you the pictures of the delicious food that I tasted there recently.

1. Roasted spring chicken (whole) RM 35

marinated pandan spring chicken, housemade mesquite bbq sauce, mashed potatoes, chives (20mins*)

This roast chicken is not unlike any other that i've tasted before. It's definitely not your run of the mill Ayamas/ Kenny Rogers/Nandos. Here they use spring chicken and served it whole. For RM 35, that's a steal! You can easily share this with 2-3 people. That delicious mesquite bbq sauce goes perfectly well with it. And of course, that bed of mashed potatoes..it's so silky smooth..you feel like shedding a tear on how perfect it is.

2. Fish and Chips (whole fish) RM 37

a twist on classic fish & chips, fried sea bass, chili powder, house fries.

My husband and I loveee eating fish. Next to duck, that's our favourite protein. We've had our fair share of fish and chips but we've to admit that Fiq's Gastronomy version is the most unique one. Because they serve a whole fish! It's great sharing this between 2 person. Definitely money well spent!

3. Duck breast RM 39

sous vide duck breast, whipped carrot potato mashed, gramolata herbs, duck “jus” sauce

As a Muslim in Malaysia, it's hard to find halal and delicious duck dishes. But luckily, you can find them at Fiq's! And boy is this dish soooooo good! If you watch cooking shows as much as I do, you'd know what sous vide is( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sous-vide).

If you don't, it's basically a technique whereby it involves sealing the duck in airtight plastic bath and the submerge it in a water bath and it cooks the duck while retaining the moisture.

The sauce pairs so well with the duck and that whipped carrot potato mash is heavenly! This is a MUST TRY dish whenever you go to Fiq's.

4. Soft shell crab pasta RM 29

deep fried farm raised soft shell crabs from Perak, curry leaves, chilli padi, red chilli, butter cream sauce > linguine

This is another favourite of mine and it's so delicious. There has been moments where I think about this dish and crave for it. I love how at Fiq's they don't drown/drench your pasta with sauce. That's not the right way to eat pasta (but I see a lottt of cafes doing so...)! Here, they coat your pasta beautifully with the sauce..so every strand of spaghetti is covered in the sauce but it's not too much.

The perfectly crisp, crunch and golden brown soft shell crab pairs well with the creamy and buttery pasta.

5. Fish Tacos RM 25

tortilla bread, fried tilapia, chili citrus aioli, mango salsa, lime, sweet potato fries

I love fish tacos! But it's hard to find them anywhere. Thank God they're served at Fiq's. This dish is refreshing and bright. The mango salsa give a burst of freshness to the crispy fried tilapia. And I love their sweet potato fries. It's fluffy on the inside and crunchy on the outside!

6. Sea Bass RM 32
This is the dish that I've ordered twice at Fiq's because I just love it. It's a beautiful beautiful dish. A perfectly cooked fillet of sea bass served with carrot miso puree(which is divine!) and portobello mushrooms on top with crispy oyster mushrooms on top.

They also serve a slice of potato cake on the side. This dish to me, is what Fiq's Gastronomy is all about.:)

7.Fried Chicken and Waffles RM 25

I love fried chicken and this one is one of the best that I've tasted. I don't know what's the coating that they used but it's sooo good. They serve the waffles with a side of gula melaka...the combination of sweet and savoury is really good.

8.  Banana Split RM 15

three scoops of ice cream, fried brioche, bananas, peanut butter “powder”, chocolate sauce, crush almonds, vanilla cream (sharing)

The banana split at Fiq's Gastronomy is not like the usual banana split that you get at any restaurant. In fact, I think they're the only one who's serving it this way. And it is so good! You mix everything on your plate and take a bite...you'll swoon! That warm fried brioche with the cold ice cream, the caramelized bananas..the peanut butter "powder"..it's the best banana split I've ever had!

9.  Waffles, popcorn and ice cream RM 15

waffles, salted caramel popcorn, three scoops of ice cream, chocolate sauce (sharing)

I love waffles! And the ones served here is realllyyyy good. It's crispy on the outside but fluffy on the inside. That salted caramel popcorn is addictive and goes well with the ice cream.

10.  Granita  RM 12

an Italian version of “ABC” but we’re keeping it simple with raspberry shaved ice, vanilla cream and pop-pop!

The granita is refreshing because of the combo of raspberry syrup , vanilla cream and pop-pop. The pop-pop is just like the name..it pops in your mouth!! haha It makes eating dessert a little bit more fun :)

11. Peanut butter snickers milkshake RM 16

It's hard to find a good milkshake in Klang Valley. I've been to places that served "milkshakes" only to find that it's watery..sorry but ewww. Milkshake is suppose to contain lotsss of ice cream with a little bit of milk!

And at Fiq's they're doing it right as it is thick and creamy. You MUST order this milkshake. They blend Snickers candy bar in it as well. It's the best milkshake that i've tasted thus far.

Drinks: Fiq's Mojito RM 13 and Strawberry Cooler RM 13

Fiq's doesn't serve alcohol but they have an array of mocktails that are refreshing! Hubs and I ordered these..and they certainly quenched our thirst.

For more information on Fiq's Gastronomy, you can refer to the links below. You can make reservations via the website! How convenient :)

That time that I got dengue.

Sunday, October 09, 2016 Liyana Hanim 0 Comments

I'm 29 years old and I have never been hospitalized..until about 2 weeks ago. It's so weird because I never thought that I would ever be the kind person who would be bitten by an aedes mosquito. Hubs and I live in Shah Alam where it's one of the cleanest city in Selangor..we figured out that it must have been the clogged drain outside of our house where we park our car. Bullocks!

As you know, earlier this year I had a miscarriage. It was horrible mentally and physically. But I've to tell you, dengue was much more horrible. One night at the hospital, I felt like I was going to die..yes it was that horrible.

I was having fever right after Raya Haji and thought it was like any other normal fever. But then I experienced chills, body ache, I was puking,shivering..funny thing was..I didn't experience any rashes or spots on my body.

The worse part was that my dearest husband got dengue at the same time as me! That bloody mosquito bit me then bit him. Also, my father in law got it a few days after us.. It was horrible!!

All three of us got admitted to DEMC. I stayed there for 6 days! My mother in law and sisters in law was running around helping us as..I couldn't take care of my husband while he couldn't take care of me. It was quite sad as well. But our rooms were near to each other.

My husband and father in law was at the High Dependency Unit while I was at the normal ward, the same floor as them. This was because when we were admitted, my husband's platelet count was very low while my father in law had low blood pressure. The funny thing was that my husband ended up leaving the hospital one day earlier than me!

I had to stay an extra day because the dengue affected my liver. T_T

It was just such a horrible experience that I don't wish on anyone.

I'm so thankful for my parents and my in laws who were so helpful towards us during our time of need. I shared pictures of me at the hospital on my instagram while I was there: https://www.instagram.com/liyanahanim/
Yes I brought my own pillow and comforter

I haven't blogged in more than a month because I've been so busy with work and life in general. I actually took a ton of photos of my liquid lipstick collection but I haven't edited them. I will try to blog more. The busier I get, the less time I have to update this blog so I hope that people will understand :)

What's cooking/baking: Part 2 (Salmon wellington,Sweet potato pie,Chrissy Teigen's 'Cravings')

Tuesday, August 02, 2016 Liyana Hanim 0 Comments

There's a lot of cooking and baking videos on Facebook nowadays. Also a lottt of great cookbooks. I love trying out new recipes so I definitely watch a lot of cooking videos/shows and read cookbooks. I have so many cookbooks/baking books!

1.Salmon Wellington

One day while I was browsing Facebook, I saw this video recipe on salmon wellington by Tasty( by Buzzfeed) and I knew that I had to make it.

I bought all of the ingredients (a good salmon fillet is the key) which was pretty pricey but it was so worth it. The only thing that I couldn't get was spinach so I used red spinach instead which worked just fine. The recipe is on point! It has a buttery crust and the creamy spinach mixture You can try the recipe via this link:

https://www.buzzfeed.com/alvinzhou/heres-an-out-of-this-world-recipe-for-salmon-wellington?utm_term=.grGywMMNrn&bffbtasty#.xakae66Kzd

2. Patti La Belle's Sweet Potato Pie

Months ago, back in December last YEAR(totally forgot to blog about it!!), I baked a really delicious sweet potato pie after I saw this video below:

I knew that when I saw that video, I have to find the recipe and bake it myself..because i've never seen it being sold anywhere. Let me tell you that it's very decadent. It has a very buttery flaky crust and the filling is just sinful.

Something that you don't expect from sweet potatoes. It's definitely a pie that's meant for sharing as one slice is very filling. You can try to bake the pie from this recipe and it makes a very beautiful pie:

http://www.today.com/recipes/make-patti-labelles-sweet-potato-pie-recipe-home-t56966

3. Chrissy Teigen's Cravings cookbook

I love Chrissy Teigen! She's super feisty-- you should follow her on twitter. But not many know that aside from being John Legend's wife and a model, she loves to cook and eat. She actually have a food blog that I love to read though she rarely update it nowadays. She even took a course at Le Cordon Bleu..if I'm not mistaken (she blogged about it) and she always shows what she's cooking on her instagram.

So naturally when she came out with her own cookbook, I knew I had to get it!

I've only tried two of her recipes and I love both of them.

One was her Chinese Chicken Salad with Crispy Wonton Skins and another was Chunky Creamy Mushroom Soup. I love how her recipes are simple but also delicious.

The salad was just so yummy and filling. It was my first time using hot mustard (it's powder form) and it packs a punch! The crispy wontons on top also add a crunch to it and is so addictive.

I'd definitely make this salad again! In fact, I'll be making it again this week :)

4. Bakinggggg

As you know, I love to bake.

During ramadhan I baked..40 jars of chocolate chip cookies which were ordered by my family and friends. A lot considering that I have a full time job as well.
VSC using fresh mangoes
Victoria sandwich is not a sandwich, but a cake and one that I love to bake because it's a crowd pleaser. You have a golden buttery sponge, layers of strawberry/raspberry jam (sometimes I put a layer of lemon curd as well) and freshly whipped cream (please don't use the one from the spray can!).

VSC for buka puasa potluck
I baked it thrice recently. One for mama's birthday back in April, one for my office buka puasa potluck and another was for raya high tea with our family members.

The one for raya high tea!
Apple crumble
I've never ate or bake apple crumble before. But one day I did and I love it! It's just so warm and comforting. Definitely one of my favourite dessert to make now. It's so simple to make that I definitely won't buy it outside haha

5. More Cooking!

One day, I was feeling really poorly( sick) so my dear husband cooked rice porridge all by himself. The first pot, he burned the rice porridge because he left it on the stove while picking up our nieces from their pre school haha. He had to cook it all over again. But I just love it!
Rice porridge

Croquettes!
I cooked ikan bilis bawang(my favouriteeee simple dish) and stir fried broccoli&bok choy to go along with the rice porridge. We ate so many bowls of it!

I bought a lot of japanese sweet potatoes because it was selling for cheap at the supermarket. I boiled a lot them, mashed it up and mixed it with some daging dendeng, chopped onions, peppers and scallions..a lil bit of salt and pepper..dipped it in egg and coat with breadcrumbs. I freeze them so that I can have croquette anytime!
Fish and chips
It's hard to find tartare sauce at the supermarket. So I made it myself and it's super easy! For dinner one night we had fish and chips with a side of caesar salad and sweet potato fries with my homemade tartare sauce for lunch. Yummy!
Kerabu kangkung!
Jemari is one of my favourite Malay/Thai restaurant. Their tomyam is soooo good but I love their kerabu kangkung. So one day I tried to replicate it. The batter wasn't as crunchy as Jemari but it tastes similar! For the sauce it's basically a good bottle of Mae Pranom vegetarian sauce and I added toasted sesame seeds as well.

What's cooking? : Part 1

Wednesday, July 27, 2016 Liyana Hanim 1 Comments

When I wasn't working back in March(been back to work now),I cook a lot more for my husband.Previously because my work sometimes last up until 8-9pm(depending how urgent an ad campaign is),I rarely have the time to cook for him during weekdays. Nowadays since I'm back to work, it's the same thing as well. I tend to cook 2-3 days out of the 5 working days.

The problem is that..sometimes there will be days when you tend to be blur on what to cook because you don't want to cook the same thing all the time(mine tends to be cereal/butter milk/salted egg prawn or squid). So i'm always trying out new recipes from the internet and alhamdulillah, they always turn out well.

It helps that I actually love cooking and baking. When I cook,I have to cut up all of my ingredients and put them in separate bowls/containers.I love to organize the ingredients that I'm cooking with because it's easier that way.

Also, whenever I cook dishes to go with rice,I just can't cook one dish..it just seems incomplete.I have to cook 2-3 dishes and one must have vegetables in it..or a vegetable dish.

I thought that I'd share pictures of the dishes that I've cooked recently and the names of it.Let me know which ones you're keen to know the recipe to.There'll be another post as well because I cook a lot! haha

Left:Udang masak kunyit. Right:Daging masak merah
I love ayam masak kunyit from this food truck that sold it near my previous work place.Since we had lots of prawns that day,I made udang masak kunyit instead. It's so easy to make and so tasty. My husband loves to order Nasi Goreng USA whenever we buy takeout food from this stall near our house.

So I thought, why not try and replicate the recipe. It's super easy and tastes so good.I used beef sirloin (daging batang pinang)for the dish so the beef just melts in your mouth. But I didn't use any food colouring for this dish though. When you buy it outside, they usually marinate the beef in red coloring because the name of the dish is daging masak merah(cooked red beef).

Stir fried beef with broccoli and bok choy
We had a lot of sirloin at home so I made this stir fry.Simple and yummy!Broccoli and bok choy are two of my favourite vegetables..there's a lot more of course haha
Fried tofu salad, stir fried broccoli & fried ikan keli with sambal
I had this fried tofu salad from this restaurant called Zainab at PJ Old Town and I love it!So I thought that i'd replicate it at home.Sooo yummy and easy to make!I didn't use any specific memory and just agak2.

Fried tofu salad

Firm tofu --cut in thin strips & then deep fried until golden brown.
Cucumber, bunga kantan & red onion --slice them thinly/julienned
Thai cili sauce--I used Kimball's and squeezed 1 to 2 limes and mix it together for the dressing.

Layer the fried tofu on a plate.Put the sliced vegetables on top and drizzle the dressing on top.Super easy and yummy!

Pulut durian
Pulut durian is one of my favourite desserts.I made this dessert because the durian that I bought wasn't so sweet. It's reallllyyy simple.Just throw everything in a pot and mix it together on the stove. And I use the rice cooker to cook the pulut(glutinous rice).

Ayam paprik,ikan bilis goreng,stir fried spinach,fried fish
Ayam paprik is another dish that's famous when you go to any Malay goreng2 food stalls.I decided to cook it for lunch one day and it was super easy and yummy. That kaffir lime leaves just add a kick to it.
Homemade udon witt inari and onsen egg
I love udon!Especially that outlet at Aeon Shah Alam, the one near Daiso(can't remember it's name). So I tried to make my own udon and it was a success. You can just buy the dry udon and udon soup mix from Aeon supermarket. For the inari(the sweet fried tofu) you can use this recipe. The best thing about the udon that I love to eat outside is because of the onsen egg.

I managed to find a recipe that allows you to make onsen egg easily!Refer to the video below:

Fried onion rings
I love onion rings but the one using whole onion and not the diced ones! It's actually super easy to make. I don't remember which recipe I use but i made a batter, dipped the onions which has been soaked in milk, and then roll them in breadcrumbs. It's tedious but so worth it!
Salted egg butter prawns, ikan siakap tiga rasa and stir fried green beans
I love cooking vegetables lightly..so that they still remain crunchy and green. I don't like it when people cook vegetables too much and they're 'dead' or limp/soggy. I love how my green beans looked in the picture above. Hubs and I love eating fish. But I believe the picture above was for dinner with his family..or was it lunch.  I made the tiga rasa ( three flavours) sauce to go along with it and also salted egg butter prawns ( so rich & decadent!).
Mee rebus!!A recipe that was passed down to me by my late grandmother
Mee rebus is a dish that I don't cook often because its laborious. But it's so delicious and it's recipe that I learnt from my late grandmother. There's so many components in it which makes the broth so flavourful. And you gotta have those crispy homemade cucur udang to go along with it. Thinking about this dish just makes my mouth water.
Cereal prawns, omelette, stir fried broccoli and fried fish!

I loveeee cereal prawns. They're so simple to make and is very tasty! Broccoli is one of my favourite vegetable and it's so good for you.

That's the end of part 1 for you my dear readers! I'll blog about part 2 soon :)
