Bali Honeymoon(Jan 2015):Places we eat/bought food from.

Thursday, February 25, 2016 Liyana Hanim 0 Comments

This is such a lateeeeee post.More than a year ago.Ooopsie!

But,I totally forgot about it until..a reader commented on an even old Bali(Kuta/Seminyak) blogpost of mine..back in 2014.It's this one HERE.

So I thought..why not make a blogpost of the places that I went to eat with my husband during our 1 week honeymoon in Ubud,Bali.:) Honestly,I eat a lot of healthy food in Ubud. There's a lot of vegetarian places there.

There's a great story though..we were walking around the town of Ubud and we stumbled upon Locavore, which was the no.1 restaurant in Ubud or was it Bali..by Tripadvisor for 2014(they're no.2 this year).I was looking at the menu outside of the restaurant when the server opened the door and asked us if we would like to have a table.

Here's the thing..you can only get a table there via reservation(atleast 2 weeks in advance). But a table was available because a cancellation was made. They have a vegetarian course menu(they only serve meals by course..not ala carte) but the non-vegetarian one had pork. That's a dilemma there.

My husband and I was so sweaty from walking around Ubud town so I didn't want to dine there. So although I was excited when I could see what they were cooking in the kitchen(you can see from outside),we didn't dine there.

Anyway, here are some of the places that we ate while we were in Ubud for our honeymoon.Keep in mind that there's no post about breakfast places because our villa serves us breakfast daily which we can choose the night before from their extensive menu.Below are the pictures of what we had for breakfast.

Also for dinner,we don't got out and only cook at the villa as our kitchen is fully equipped with utensils and a stove. We went to the Bintang Supermarket in Ubud& bought groceries. That saved us a lot of money(like a lottt) and we used that for shopping & spa.

Dinner during our first night, complimentary from the villa
Making dinner

We did spend one day in Kuta/Seminyak as well to do all of our shopping. We went to like..sooo many sports factory outlets and also all of the malls(yes,ALL).Thankfully we had our trusty driver who chauffeured us to all of the places.

1.Sari Organik,Ubud

Mushroom tempura and spring rolls

The walk to this cafe in the middle of a paddy field is longggggg. My husband carried a backpack whenever we go out from our villa and he was like..there's another way for us to walk back into town right? There wasn't haha..
A random cafe that we found otw to Sari Organik
But it was very amazing to see these pretty cafes in the middle of a paddy field. There was quite a few actually on the way to Sari Organik.I knew about this cafe before we went to Ubud but I didn't know exactly how to reach it.While my husband and I was walking in Ubud from Bridges(we didn't eat there..wanted to but I don't know why we didn't..it was either they served pork or..the pricing),we passed by a sign that said Sari Organik.

I did read up that you can't drive to reach the cafe..so I thought that it was only a few steps from the paddy field. But it's a long walk.So wear comfy shoes! If you have a scooter or motorcycle, you don't have to walk to the cafe.
The smoothies with bamboo straws!

The food there is healthy, organic(duh) and definitely not something that we've used to eat before as Malaysian cuisine has punchier flavours.haha They have an array of smoothies and quite a good selection of food.Hubs and I ordered a smoothie each(he said mine tasted like grass..hahaha Cos there's parsley in it),springrolls, mushroom tempura and a pizza with avocado&egg.

The food to be honest is not that good..but the ambiance more than made up for it.It's better for you to just sip some smoothies and just chill.
cookies
I did buy a cookie before we left the place and it wasn't too bad!

2.Warong Ijo,Ubud

I think all of this was under rm20-30 in total.Cheap!

Warong Ijo is a halal restaurant in the town of Ubud that even has it's own musollah inside(what they call surau there). It came highly recommended by various tourists on Tripadvisor because the food is cheap(the cheapest we've eaten in Bali) and it's yummy.

We've ate the food twice.Once at the restaurant and another we takeaway for dinner.I don't remember what exactly we ate..but I think we had a grilled fish, sweet&sour prawns, eggplant, bebek penyet..all was good!

It's pretty rare to find a halal food place in Ubud compare to Seminyak/Kuta.The owner was also very kind and when my husband talked to him,he even invited my husband to go for Friday prayers with him.If you're walking in Ubud town, you will definite walk by this place!

3.Dairy Queen

I think there's two Dairy Queen in Ubud town...if i'm not mistaken.I actually really wanted to try Coldstone Creamery which I walked by at the malls in Kuta during our first trip to Bali but they don't have Coldstone in Ubud. But Dairy Queen nutella blizzard treats was yummy!!

I had the waffle crisp one and it was so thick and delicious. It's like a way thicker version of the McFlurry that we have here only better.haha I shared that with the hubs and it was gone quickly.

4.Hawaiian Bistro (Discovery Shopping Mall)

Although we stayed in Ubud during our one week honeymoon there...we also hired a driver for us to spend one day walking around Kuta/Seminyak and we actually went to all the malls/sports factory outlet there..because my husband knows how much I love to shop and he was looking for new shoes as well.

So when we were at Discovery mall,I found this bistro and bought their cronuts and fruit tarts for us to have as desserts later at our villa. They were delicious!
Hugeee fruit tart that was sooo good!
The cronuts were sooo good that on the last day and 2 hours before our flight,we asked our driver to bring us back to Discovery for us to bring a dozen of the cronuts back with us.haha Yes,we hand carry the box!
Brought all of them home to Malaysia!

5.Seniman Coffee Studio (Ubud)

We stumbled upon this quaint coffee shop in Ubud while we were walking around the town.
They revamped the normal plastic chairs!

We didn't stay for a sip of coffee..instead we bought a few bottles of their cold brew back with us as gifts for our family members.I also bought a packet of their cocoa powder..for baking purposes.

6.Ice Cream Sandwiches at Beachwalk
We've been to Beachwalk back in 2014 but never saw this ice cream sandwich kiosk before. It was pretty good! You get to choose what kind of cookie + ice cream combo that you want.

7.Cafe Moka

Cafe Moka was next to Bintang Supermarket in Ubud and it's such a tiny bakery that looks so unassuming but they got really great reviews on Tripadvisor.I bought some of the desserts back to our villa not thinking much of it.

But to my surprise, they tasted really good.Unfortunately I didn't take a clear picture of it but you can see it in the background of the picture of the dinner that we made at the villa(top of the post)

8.Confiture De Bali

We also found this place while walking in Ubud but I've already read about them before we came here.I loveee the quaint shop. They sell homemade jam in various unique tropical flavours.I bought quite a few bottles as gifts for our parents. You can look at their website HERE.

9.Big Tree Farms

Because we were staying in Ubud for one week, husband and I planned out activities that we could do as well.We did white water rafting and another was visiting this chocolate farm in Ubud.Big Tree Farms products are carried by iHerb as well(a US website which I'm a frequent customer..haha)
Our tour guide
They have selected hours for the tour and I emailed them before we went to Ubud to book a slot.We had to wear hats and foot protector when we entered the place. The entire factory is made out of bamboo and cement!Amazing!During the tour, our tour guide explained the chocolate making process and we got to visit the factory.Oh,there's also a surau inside the factory(it's hard to find surau in Ubud compare to Kuta/Seminyak).
The process of making chocolate

iced cocoa..so yummy
We were given complimentary iced cocoa as well which was so delicious. We also tasted raw cocoa beans from the pod!

I ended up buying a lot of their cocoa butters(below) as body moisturizers and their sea salt(which was shaped like tiny pyramids).

Repeats

These restaurants are the ones that we've eaten at when we went to Bali back in 2014.They don't serve pork and even at Bale Udang, they have a surau.

1.Bebek Joni

Second time here eventhough Bebek Tepi Sawah is more popular(but ALL of Bebek Tepi Sawah in Bali serves pork,so muslims should avoid going there) as Bebek Joni doesn't serve pork. The food and ambiance is gooood. The price is like the normal restaurant prices in Malaysia though.

My crispy duck dish
Love the huts!
Husband's smoked duck dish

2.Bale Udang

Another fave of ours from our previous visit as it's halal and the food is so delicious!Love the floating huts as well.Always order their seafood dishes! The price is also not expensive.

Yummy!
Yup this has been such a long post..pretty much why I never got around to finish it and put it in draft mode for such a long time.hahah But now it's done!I can't wait to go back to Bali.:)Hope that this will be helpful for those who wants to go to Ubud and worry about their food choices.

Klairs Creamy and Natural Fit Concealer from Hermo

Sunday, February 21, 2016 Liyana Hanim 1 Comments

I was given this new concealer from our local beauty e-commerce site Hermo for me to review.
I love trying new beauty products and I will always give my honest review about them.

When I received Klairs creamy and natural fit concealer,I was surprised to find out that it's a Korean brand. Those Koreans always makes some of the best beauty products in the market so I can't wait to try them.
doe foot applicator

I love the sleek packaging. It's very neat and clean. The concealer comes with a doe foot applicator which I appreciate as it makes applying it easier.
When I swatch it on my hand, the texture was creamy and it dries out fast as well.
used it only on my left undereye

I tried out the concealer on my left undereye as that's the part of my face that I usually use concealer on.I use the doe foot applicator and then use a concealer brush that I have to smooth it out.

I applied it twice to get more coverage and it wasn't cakey at all!The concealer applies beautifully and it was smooth.I've tried other concealers before and at times they get cakey or create lines but this doesn't.The only thing I'd comment is that there's only one shade which is nude beige and it might not suit everyone.

Klairs Creamy & Natural Fit Concealer for face and under eye!

The Only Concealer You'll Ever Want! Fall in love with the Creamy & Natural Fit Concealer and experience what a true concealer should do! With all natural ingredients and a safe, soothing formula for excellent coverage, the Creamy & Natural Fit Concealer is made for even the most sensitive skin for the allaround, hydrating coverage you’ve been looking for.

Directions to Use:
1) Apply an adequate amount to target areas in need of coverage.
2) After waiting for about 15 seconds, gently tap the edges of the concealed spot to blend in the edges (*heavy tapping may remove the concealer so lightly tap only the edges).
