A perfect day

Monday, September 29, 2008 Liyana Hanim 2 Comments

This past 3 days of Raya break have been spent by me by watching dvd & sleeping.eheh.Tomorrow I have to cook with my mum and she has been asking me to peel lots and lots of garlic & shallots...sheesh!hahaha.

Today I woke up late, cos' I was up watching the Korean series Sad Sonata on my brand-new DVD player which I bought with my OWN money..hehe.My former beloved DVD player was wrecked/ruined/musnah by my bouncer aka brother,Haziq!!!!hurmmphh. But he did chipped in some money so that I could buy a new one & so I manage to buy a more expensive dvd player than the one I had before, which my dad bought for me.

This new baby of mine even has a USB port!!!So dearest Izlin,I didn't even have to burn all the Gossip Girl season2(ooohhh..the new season is just too juicy!!!To Chuck--told you so!!) episodes that you gave me,I just watched it on my dvd player, straight from my pendrive!!!I love this new baby of mine because I could finally watch the Korean Series,Sad Sonata that Yaya gave to me since last semester break--cos' my previous dvd player couldn't play out the subtitles..cos' Yaya burn the dvd on her own pc,thus the dvd can only be watched, along with the subtitles,on a PC/Laptop & I prefer to watch dvd's/any series for that matter,on my tv!!!

Ookay, today, after waking up late,I went out to shop for Raya with my mum & 2 brothers.Bought a gorgeous modern baju kurung..love the unique sleeves & lining below it..& also a pair of black patent leather stiletto pump---which my mum deemed were too high..if only she knew that I wore a 4.5 inch heel to class a couple of days ago..ehehe.The higher the heels, the better!!

Ooh,while buying my Raya stuff,I saw this Macha..hahahaha.Okayla,it's not a macha,it's Black,my super senior& he was there with his family so manage to terjah him a bit...haha.Still remember the time he scolded us during pre-degree,along with Husni because we were making a ruckus in Cemara one night..LOL!!

Then after hopping from one mall to another(I think it was 3 mall trip in a day!)...we went to Bazaar Ramadhan at the Shah Alam Stadium to buy some kuih for the big berbuka puasa with my dad's side of the family later.Met Dr.Z & her hubby, talked a bit & walk again.Took a pic of the loooooooong queue at the Papa John stall..seriously they are so damn famous for their roti john man!I did a post on them before...Below are the pics to show how long the queue was!!

Then we went to visit my grandma in sek 11.She seems to be doing okay...But this will be the first Raya ever that she won't be able to cook Raya dishes for her family because she's bedridden...: (

After that we went to the thing that I've been waiting since yesterday!!!Bukak puasa with all 5 siblings from my dad side of the family. My dad went straight to Pak Teh's house(used to be their late parent's house) in sect.19 after work, while my mum & my siblings went in my car.All of my cousins on my dad side are still in primary/high school & I'm the eldest cousin so I feel so old!My dad's siblings are(with the name that I call them)..Pak Uda,Pak Tam,Pak Teh,Mak Lang & Cu.

Mak Lang cooked a LOT of tasty dish for berbuka & she gave me 2 kek lapis for Raya(I LOVE KEK LAPIS SARAWAK!!!).Kek Lapis is like much more expensive than Secret Recipe tau!!And Mak Lang gave me the big square one in white cake boxes..not the panjang2 rectangle ones..hahah.The food for berbuka cooked by Mak Lang, was spaghetti with bolognaise sauce, rice with dishes many dishes like...

a)ayam percik(ini Pak Uda beli)
b)rebung masak lemak
c) ikan masak lemak kuning
d)sambal tumis petai&udang(I love this!!!!!!!!!!!!!)
e)ayam masak merah
f) ikan masin
g)pecal/gado2
h)kuih-muih
i)4 kinds of drink-cendol,sarsi,orange & teh o'.

After stuffing ourselves,it was time to play...bunga api!!!!!!!!!wooott!

Tentang Ku:10 fakta

Sunday, September 28, 2008 Liyana Hanim 3 Comments

Tak tahu kenapa tp dr kecik lg dh tulis dgn tgn kiri.Tapi org tgn kiri ini 'special' tau sbb hanya ada beberapa peratus shj spesies kami yg terdpt di dunia nih..eheh.

2.Walaupun dr luaran aku nmpk sgt 'keperempuanan'(mementingkan penampilan,blah2) tapi sebenornye aku nih agak kasar & tomboy skit(aku maseh pakai jeans baggy Levi's time kuar)..especially dahulu time sekolah(sekarang pun agak kasar skit sket..hehe).Ye la,adik beradik ak pon sume lelaki & kwn2 masa kecik pon lelaki--bace kisah kanak2 aku disini---KLIK.Alah,Gwen Stefani pon agak tomboy(bace dlm InStyle bulan berape ntah) time dalam No Doubt tp masih kelihatan vogue ape.

3.Aku sangat suka memasak.
Dari zaman sekolah lagi aku suke bereksperimen dgn resepi2.Ingat lagi masa famili aku tinggal kat Penang, aku sesuke hati jer masuk mcm2 dlm resepi nasi goreng kampung seperti bunga kantan yg dihiris(sedap laa!) atau tempe goreng yg dihancurkan.Minta memasak ni jatuh dari kedua2 nenek dibelah mama & ayah oleh kerana mama aku tak berape minat bab memasak nih.Mama lebih suka kemas rumah, hias rumah..huhu.Ingat lagi masa tinggal kat seremban,kawan2 suka dtg rumah & mintak aku masak lasagna & kiteorg siap ada 'lasagna' party dimana ber'tray2' lasagna dihabiskan.

4.Aku tak reti mengedik dan tak suke org yg mengedik.
Seriyes.Aku selalu rasa geli bile lelaki2 yg aku baru kenal setakat seminggu mcm tuh nak bersayang2 dgn aku.Ishh..geli den.Aku juga geli dgn ayat2 'original' lelaki bila mengurat aku..tolonglah,jadi je lah diri sendiri.Bagi aku(mintak maaf jika sesiapa terase..),org2 begini sebenarnya mempunyai 'low self-esteem' jadi mereka kenalah mengedik atau menggunakan ayat2 'power' agar org tak dpt lihat diri 'sebenar' mereka.titik.

5.Aku sgt boros.
Sebab tu lah aku sejak 3 bulan nih banyak buat kerja part-time.Ye lah, kereta yang aku pakai tuh, ayah yg byr semua dr byrn bulanan & minyak.Jadi sedikit sebyk,lama2 rasa bersalah sbb semua ayah yg byr.Umur pon dh 21 tahun,jd baiklah jinak2kn diri dgn bekerja sambil belajar nih.Dpt pengalaman, jumpa ramai org.Takdelah asyik berada di takuk yang sama, dengan org yg sama..tak membesar la mcm tuh..hehe.(habislah aku kene dgn hanna..hahaha)

6.Walaupun aku agak kasar, tak suke mengedik tapi aku sgt romantik.Sgt.Terutama dlm satu perhubungan..hehe.Mesti nk pastikan org tersyg selalu okay, suke masak utk die,dan suke& senang sgt bermanja dgn lelaki yg kusayangi(okay ini geli skit..ahah).Kalau nk tgk Liyana yg brutal nih manja, tengoklah macam mane dia dengan teman lelaki nya nanti..hehehe.

7.Masa sekolah menengah, masa umur16-17 thn,aku suka baca novel cinta Melayu.Alah, time tuh pon aku tgh bercinta..eheh,so mmh jiwang sket.Sepupuku,Kak Hani yg beli, jadi aku pun baca sekali.Kwn2 pon baca gaks. & 'Aku mahu buli'.

8.Aku tak boleh nak kayuh basikal ataupun berenang.Betul.Aku tak tipu.Tapi takpe nanti lepas raya ade 2 org lelaki-yg satu tuh sgt hensem kerana die abang & yg si chomel tuh adik--yg akan mengajar aku bwk basikal di perkarangan rumah mereka.Harap tak jatuh di depan si abang sebab sgt malu nanti!!!!Ooh drop my water face(jatuh air muka).

9.Aku jarang2 dgr radio semasa memandu.

Tapi pegi salon rambut tuh mmg la pernah.

SELAMAT HARI RAYA

SELAMAT HARI RAYA AND MAAF ZAHIR & BATIN

TO EVERYONE WHO'S CELEBRATING RAYA...

IN ANOTHER 3 DAYS!!!!

Whew..I haven't blog in almost a week!Life has been really hectic for me lately ..Tests,presentation & whatnot...Manage to bake 1600 pieces of chocolate chips for all the Raya orders that I got.Yes...crazy I know & I did everything on my OWN!I didn't ask help from my mum or like some people thought that I bought the cookies from a supplier..hello it's my secret recipe kot!!!Just because I'm kind of high-maintenance doesn't mean I don't know my way around the kitchen yo!!!haha.Giler penat that was..but it was sooo satisfying being able to earn money on my own(aside from the bracelet business & the tutoring job that I do too)..huhu.Also,I'm loving earning money on my own now that I've applied for 2 part-time jobs & hopefully I'll get one of them!!!Need to save money for TB!!

With the money that I got ,I even manage to buy my mum this one top that she wanted,on the sly and gave it to her as a Raya baju gift.Seriously, earning your own money and being able to buy stuff for your family with it, is one the best feelings in the world.huhu.And I'm proud to say that I'll be buying my baju raya(Raya clothes) this year using my OWN HARD EARNED MONEY!!!hehehe...

Slept a lot at the girls house this week & manage to have last sahur & bukak puasa with them.Hani cooked for us & then she went back on Thursday..uwaaa.Send off Napz at the bus stop yesterday & Hanna with her sis to KTM cos they're going to Gombak to meet their aunt & drive back to Ipoh for raya.Beshnyerrr raya kat kampung!!!I have no kampung(village) whatsoever!

Every year ever since I was a tiny tot,Raya has been spent in Shah Alam as my mum's side of the family lives in Section 11 while my dad's side of the family lives in Section 19.But this year's Raya won't be as 'meriah' as past raya since the eldest uncle on my dad's side just passed away and my grandma is bed-ridden as both of her legs doesn't function anymore. So it's more of a subdued raya and I think the first day of Raya I might go and catch the KAMI movie with my cousins.

Actually,I have so many things to blog about but you know, when the piece of news has been in your head for days and you tend to forget what is it that you wanted to blog about...yeah I'm getting old..hehehe.

On a funny note:Why many kuih has the name 'badak'(hippo) in it??Like 'cucur badak','badak berendam'..How did it came about?I always wonder...hmmm...

p/s:Temi,I'll do ur tagging thing in a few days time aight?Have to help my mum cook food for raya & do my raya shopping!!!!

Latifa:My Forbidden Face

Sunday, September 21, 2008 Liyana Hanim 9 Comments

I read a lot of things from fictions to autobiography to motivation books and so on,so forth.Once in awhile,a book just jumps to you and begs to be read and this book, My Forbidden Face: Growing Up Under the Taliban: A Young Woman's Story,is one of them.I discussed about the gory true tales in the book with some of my friends a few days ago and they were shocked over the shocking(no pun intended!) revelation.

Funnily,I got the book from the library at my faculty..Now who says the library has boring books? Those people obviously wasn't looking in the right places..hehe

I was in the library with Hani,a week ago and we were browsing around, waiting for Hanna & Napz to finish their class. And I saw the book and just grab it.I love reading true stories,real-life account of a person who has been there, experiencing what living in a war torn place is and this book is a big scary eye opener for me.The only problem I have with this book, and judging with the reader's review at Amazon,is the fact that the stories are not in choronological order.

Latifa switches back and forth the stories according to her memory. You know, how in real life you tend to talk about things but then you tend to forget about some details and then when you do remember the things you were suppose to say,it's said after you've said it?Confusing?Well try reading a book about a girl's real life experiences and then she jumps from one scenario and then rewind back without any warning.

But all in all, this book is to me very important to be read.Very, very important. The reason one is easy to believe in hear say and rumors is because they don't get their facts right. And I'm glad that when I read this book,it had things that Khaled Hosseini wrote in his book so it's suffice to say that although Hosseini was writing a piece of fiction,he wasn't lying about some of the things that really did happened in Afghanistan.

This book made me very appreciative and thankful that I'm living in Malaysia.Seriously, all of us have NO idea how extremely lucky we are.Latifa has been living in Afghanistan all her life(of course now she's living in America as she can't go back as the Taliban have her on their wanted list because she told of her experience to ELLE magazine a few years ago) and when Afghanistan was under the Soviet, even when bombs was going down everywhere, she still manage to study and go to school. But when the Taliban came, she couldn't go out to school. She stayed at home for 2 years!2 years of being cooped up at home...Because the Taliban doesn't allow the women to work or even go to school.

There's a brief chronology on the history of Afghanistan in the book and it helps shed some light on the confusing politic situation there. And there's even a map of Afghanistan.

There are many ridiculous laws that the Taliban impose on the Afghan when they took over in 1994 but some of the ones that shocked me are:

-Girls and women are not allowed to work outside the home

-All women who have to leave their houses must be accompanied by a mahram

-Suits and ties are forbidden.Traditional Afghani dress must be worn.

-Women and girls must wear the burqa.
-Women and girls are forbidden to wear brightly coloured clothes BENEATH their burqa--???

-Nail polish, lipstick and make-up are forbidden.

-A young woman must not engage in conversation with a young man.If they do so,they must be married immediately after this breach.

-Muslim families may not listen to music, even during a wedding ceremony.

-Families are prohibited from taking photos or making videos, even during a marriage.

-Engaged women may not go to a beauty salon, even during preparation for marriage.

-No merchant is permitted to sell women's undergarments.

Some of shocking incidents that happened to Latifa and the people around her:

(a)At the beginning of 1997,after 4 months of the arrival of Taliban,Latifa finally go out of her house. With her friend, the siblings,Saber(a guy) & Farida. They saw four women walking along the road.Suddenly a Taliban pick up van appears from nowhere and whip them! They start to whip the women on the streets despite the fact that the women were fully covered in their burqas.

The women scream, but no one comes to their aid. They run away, clumsy in their heavy garb but the Taliban continued to lash at hem.Latifa sees blood dripping from the women's shoes.

And you know why they were whipped?

It's because they were wearing white shoes!!Because it's the color of the Taliban flag, thus women aren't allowed to wear white. Can you imagine that?Being whip until you bleed just for wearing the color white??

(b)At the beginning of the winter of 1997, one of Latifa's neighbour,a young boy named Aimal, was hit by the Taliban with the butts of their Kalashnikovs while his mother was screaming "My son is innocent".They hit Aimal on the ribs. And Aimal was dead when the doctors came.

Why was Aimal being hit by the Taliban with their rifle?
Aimal had invited his friends over, all between 15-17 of age to watch a film on video. The Taliban raided the apartment and caught the youths. When the Taliban asked to whom the tape belonged,Aimal said that it was him.

So the Talibans insisted that the boys hit each other,an act which the Afghans find supremely humiliating.Aimal didn't hit hard enough,so one of the Taliban said "I'll show you how it's done".

So he set upon him, fist with his fists, then with the rifle.Aimal's mother tried to interpose herself but the Taliban hit her so hard that she went flying against barbed wire. Then like a lynch mob, they all joined in beating the youth with the butts of their rifles.

(c)Latifa's mother is a retired gynaecologist. One day,4 burqa clad women came to their house. One of them is and old school friend of Latifa's sister,Nafissa. They came all the way from Kohestan and took a long taxi ride to get to Kabul. To cut the story short(as I think this post is getting to long & I still have to bake more cookies!)...

The 3 girls were 15-16 years old,the Taliban took them hostage during the offensive on the plane of Shomali.A gang of about 15 men, raped them. But that wasn't all, they mutilated their genitals, ripped them. So,Latifa's mother had to sew their genitals back together without using a proper hospital equipment,as they were at their aparment.

There's more gory and shocking things that Latifa experienced that were told in this book.So do read it!I hope that you guys will read this book because it makes you appreciate more all the things that you take for granted.

Life goes on

Sunday, September 21, 2008 Liyana Hanim 2 Comments

I haven't update this blog in awhile because I wanted to post this entry along with some photos but due to the fact that I've seemed to misplace my hp cable..I guess the pics have to wait later.Every cloud has a silver lining and after the sad day that was the day when my uncle past away(Wednesday),on Thursday,I could count on my friends to make things better and my family too,of course.

I was so bummed out that I couldn't break my fast with my family on Thursday because I had to go to Ihya Ramadhan which was organize by PMFP & since I'm on the high committee,it's compulsory for me to go,plus,I had my creative writing class from 6-10pm.My mum called on Thursday evening asking if I could go home or not since Pak Uda(my dad's brother) and his family is coming over to break fast with us.So of course I couldn't go and it sucks because during the day before,I asked Pak Uda to come home with us and break fast but he wanted to go back to the hotel in PJ with his family.

Pak Uda currently lives in Terengganu with his 2 kids and his new wife(he divorce his first wife about 2 years ago),while his former wife lives with their 3 child from their previous marriage.I haven't seen him in like a year!sob sob sob.And when I got back home on Friday my mum told me about how his kids played around on our lawn and that they had to bathe after rolling on the grass..LOL..arghhh they must have looked so cuteee!!!But fret not,my mum said that we'll be going there for a holiday before my bro,Haziq aka the Bouncer goes to uni.I'm estatic because Pak Uda's bungalow is by the beach & among all states in Malaysia,I haven't been to Kelantan,Terengganu,Sabah & Sarawak yet.So I can cross Terengganu off my list soon..!!!

Ihya Ramadhan organize by PMFP was a success. My attire that night prompted a lot of talk from my friends. Some of the lines that came out from A
kmal-- "Aku tergoda&bermcm2 lg..",Furkan--"Ayu& bermcm2 lg menyakat dr beliau",Fazirul--"Nampak manis& bermcm2 lg",Hafriz--"patut teruskan pakai mcm nih..-_-...,Duang--"cantikl liyana bertudung",Syatila--"comel",Acad--"Ustazah!",Mr.Jaferi--"I'm surprised"..-_-...and so on.

Yes,I wore the tudung that night to respect the ceremony as
we had a ceramah before we break our fast. When the maghrib azan was heard,we break our fast with pudding, dates and rose syrup water and proceed to berjemaah maghrib prayers and after that we had rice.It was yummy! There was rice with kurma telur, ikan masin, ayam berempah, ulam, watermelon& bread pudding for the students. While we,the PMFP with the lecturer, had rice with squid cooked in soy sauce, stir fried vegetables, ayam berempah,ulam2 & sambal belacan, popia, bread pudding, watermelon.

Oh,I took a pic of Pn.Roslinda Wahab(my sociolinguistic lect) youngest son,Khairin Nafis..I couldn't stop pinching his cheeks!!!!Arghhh so cuteeee!!!When I told her that Khairin is so cute, she said,"Tengokla sape mak die(look who's the mother)"..hahaha.She brought all of her 3 children to Ihya Ramadhan and Pn.Hajah brought the cute but mischievous Dini too--who played facial expression, scrunching up our nose with me.

After we break out fast,we proceed to Isyak prayers and then onwards to Terawih.I have to confess that during Ramadhan,I rarely had the chance to perform terawih prayers as I have koko and a class during night time.So it was great that my lecturer(Mr.Jaferi) permits me to perform my terawih as PMFP was the one who's organizing it.But up to the 7 rakaat,I was kinda getting sleepier and my friends confessed that they too were "terhuyung hayang skit"..hehehe.

After that there were moreh but I quickly popped into my creative writing class and got the assignments.5 poem for the blog entry yo!!!!woaahhh. And an indvidual assignment and that's to write & perform a poem..gulp...I'm down with 3 more poems left to create..sigh..I think my poems sucks..haha.

After class,I went back to Hanna's place with the girls,lepak2 and then head out to A&W for sahur. And seriously,I told Hani that she's getting funnier by the day.You guys should see her imitating that Grim Reaper monster from Death Note..it's hilarious!!!That night we ate so much food at A&W.Like, sooo much food!!!Hani was going on how she's blowing off her diet & so am I..and she's making this slashing motion at her neck cos' we're eating too much..hahaha.Like we're better off killing ourselves with the amount of calories that we had ingested.

I was like, nevermind,we'll break our fast with dadih jer....(which so didn't happen to me since when I got home on Friday,my mum cooked Sambal tumis petai ikan bilis & my dad bought ikan bakar...=having rice again=getting fatter!!!!!!!!!!).A&W h
ad a new addition to their menu. They had mix fries and curly fries and pour cheese sauce on top and there's also another one where they serve em' with the coney dog sauce...yummmaahhh!!!Hani & Napisah had the cheesy mixed fries.Hani had waffles and rootbeer float and a beef burger with that.Napz had cheeseburger, rootbeer float along with her cheesefries.Hanna had cheese burger(she's set on her diet..cisss!) while I,had waffles with extra syrup, rootbeer float and onion rings.^_^

Yep!!!Diet is out of the window. But spare me la,and Hani too, since we haven't had carbonated drink in a looong time. And I can't remember the last time I had
A&W.Funnily, the last time I had fast food was with them too which was Mc D's Mud Pie Oreo McFlurry(yummyy!!!) and during the first week of fasting,I break my fast with them at KFC and had that new chicken berempah whatever thing.

By the end of our major pigging out at A&W..Hani felt like she was about to barf while I was contemplating whether to get a coney dog while mooching Hani's &
Napz's fries..hehe.Oh,Hani only manage to eat half of her waffle so I fed it to this fat cat who was around. And it ate it!Actually,I didn't finish my waffle too but it wasn't as much as Hani didn't finish hers so Hanna finish up my waffle for me..hehe.

On Friday, after class,I went home because I wanted to start and baked the cookies for people who ordered from me.And mama cooked rendang ayam & sambal tumis petai ikan bilis. So screw the breakfast with dadih only rule..hahaha.I had rice along with mama's dishes and ikan bakar(grilled fish).

On Saturday morning, went to KL and then to Summit, and the to Shah Alam mall with my family..Sort of Raya shopping...hehe.And it was about 3.40 pm(we went out at like 10 am something!) when we went to the Bazaar at Shah Alam stadium in Sect.13.It was our 2nd time there since my parents doesn't like the fact that it's s0 damn crowded..

It was definitely more crowded than last year..I guess because of the amount of press the Bazaar gets, from the Malaysia Book of Records,8TV even mentione
d it during the Quickie...But since it was,3.40 pm..the stalls was about to open so we were able to walk freely without people pushing us..

But to my surprise,I saw this loonnnnnggg queue at Papa John's stall.Like seriously loong!!!And it was at that time,3.50 pm!!!Crazzzyy!!!The line of people waiting for the roti john was like...equals to 3 or 4 tent there. It must be really tasty. And th
e people who were making them looked like professional chef, judging from their attire. So people,if you want to eat Papa John's roti john, come super super early!!

I had a bit of a tiff with my dad there because I was contemplating whether to buy these kabobs(kebab is the pita bread filled thing while kabobs are the grillled meat/chicken with veggies on a stick) at one of the stalls(it'll be featured this upcoming Monday at TV3 on the Syamsul at Bazaar show) but my dad,due to his low blood sugar and no nicotine fix, suddenly storm off while I was standing there with my bro & my mum.Lerr..My mum was like,"Biase la tuh"...See,don't ever smoke people!!!It'll turn you into this ticking time bomb during fasting month.

We went our separate ways,my mum went with me while my bro,Syafiq, went with my dad. After we were about to go back,my dad pass me a plastic bag, saying "Nih,ayah beli tadi"...containing..tadaaahh..two sticks of the kabobs. One beef and one chicken.
Hehehe. My dad may look tough and is strict on the outside but inside,he's a big softy especially when it's about his only daughter(ME!!).Haha...I ate it for my break fast and it was sooo damn good!!!!It was rm 5 per stick but it was sooo worth it!!!I'll post all of the pics soon. Now,back to poem writing and baking more cookies!!(pic of hazelnut chocolate chip cookies for Yaya's mum!)Toodlesss!!

Ajal dan maut di tangan tuhan

Wednesday, September 17, 2008 Liyana Hanim 12 Comments

Thanks for people who blog about my late uncle & giving their condolence :
Some of the bloggers are
Suhaimi Sulaiman & Emila

Disaat aku melihat Mak Long memasukkan kapas dicelah kain kapan yang membaluti tubuh Pak Long...sambil memampatkan kapas-kapas itu dada Arwah, bagaikan sesuatu meruntun perasaanku, air mata ku jatuh satu persatu.

Mereka hanya anak-anak kecil.

Pak Long lah segala-galanya bagi Mak Long tapi kini dia sudah tiada.

Mama memberitahu aku bahawa semalam ayah menangis dengan teruk sekali, setelah melihat Pak Long.

Below is what happen before I found out that Pak Long was in coma...

Last night,it was almost midnight and I was on my way from MCD to Hanna's house with Hanna, her sis & Hani(btw, try the new mcflurry oreo mudpie..sedap sgt),suddenly my mum texted me and said that she's at Subang medical with my 2 lil brothers and dad,and that my dad's eldest brother(my dad's the second eldest),Sazli Bin Morah Abas,is in coma.

I was in shocked.Pak Long?Because although I rarely see Pak Long(on the account that he's busy most of the time),I would never have guessed that there was anything wrong with him.

But last night,as he was breaking his fast,he was laughing with his friends when he suddenly fell down and fainted. He went into a coma last night and the doctor put him on the machine because his lungs, heart and brain failed him.I wanted to go to SMC lastnight but my parents advised me to stay put and that they'll text me if anything happens. In the morning my mum called me and said that I should come back home to Puncak Alam.

So I was sorting out my stuff at Hanna's place(I slept over), it was around 30 mins after my mum's call, she texted me and said that Pak Long has passed away.I called my mum and she said that we'll be going to Lenggeng for the pengebumian. So I drove to my grandma's hse in sect 11 to get my baju kurung and stuff for tomorrow's class. And went straight back to Puncak Alam.As I was driving, memories about my uncle rushed through my head.

Back when I was little,I will always watch tv3 to see my uncle's name appear in the credits for nightline. And I remembered that he was good friends with Wahid from Senario as when my grandma passed away,Wahid actually went down the 'liang lahad' to help.

I went to Lenggeng with my parents as my 2 lil brothers were left at home since both of them was down with fever and last night my family stayed at SMC until 4 in the morning, they didn't get much to sleep.

My dad drove my car and the 3 of us met up with my dad's other siblings at perhentian Serdang as Lenggeng is in N.Sembilan and the road there is very confusing. My dad has 7 siblings(2 girls & 5boys) and he's the 2nd child while Pak Long is of course, the first child. It was a sort of reunion for my dad because his siblings live faraway from each other especially Pak Uda who lives by the beach in Terengganu.

It was great but sad seeing them too.4 cars made it's way to Lenggeng and the first paragraph above(in Malay) described what happened there.

Hectic

My life right now is pretty hectic.Heck the word pretty shouldn’t even be there..It is hectic. But I got everything covered .Yesterday was a jampacked day. After class in the morning,I had to pick up my mum in Puncak Alam which is 40 minutes away from my faculty,so that she could go to HUKM and see my grandma(my grandma has been admitted in and out of the hospital for a few weeks now ).After that ,I have tutoring which usually lasts for about 2 hours but I had to cut it short because I have a class.ahah.I don’t just tutor the boys Eng although some people think so because I’m a TESL student but I tutor all the subjects that the boys are taking.Particularly the one whose taking PMR this year.Because my ass is on the chopping block if his grades doesn’t go up soon enough for the upcoming PMR.And I had PMFP meeting because Ihya Ramadhan will be this Thursday night and we divided the work among us.PMFP’s meeting are always so funny. They love to poke fun at each other and last night, when Hanna,Hani & me got in the meeting room a little bit late,we came in with someone whose very famous in PMFP and Hanna was made fun off by the guys for it..eheh.Although yesterday was pretty stressful, the jokes that the peeps made just made me laught a lot during the meeting. After the meeting,me,hani, hisyam, furkan & hanna discussed about the kursus kepimpinan that’ll be at Frasers Hill after finals.Me,Hani & Hisyam were discussing about what activities were going to have for those 3 days and we’re going to Frasers Hill soon to check out the place!!Yippeee. It’ll be me,hani & hisyam,a road trip to Frasers Hill.Although Hanna wanted to go,me & hani was like noooo!!!And hani was going all,bg lah kiteorg comolot dgn hisyam..Nanti ko pegi la petik strawberry time kursus tuh dgn fazirul(cos they were the high comm for Mekar).LOL..

And the list of order s for my choc chip cookies for Raya are about to hit the 20 mark and yeah,it might look like it’s not a lot but each person equals to 100 pieces of cookies and I do all the mixing, baking all by myself okay!I don’t ask help from my mum nor do I have a maid.I’m self-sufficient like that….but that is pretty tiring since I have to bake all those cookies starting this Friday since the oven is at my Puncak Alam house and not the Shah Alam house. So,that means I have to bake 2000 cookies in 2 & ½ days….OMG!!!Nevermind,I can do it!!!ahah.

Okay, today after my 8.30 class,I went to the library PC lab to search the reading evaluation thing online.Search and search, and then I found the web, rummage through my bag wanted to find my pendrive and....yeah it wasn't there! So I took out everything that was in my bag,korek2 the bag and yeah it wasn't there. So I started to panic because there's so many things in that 2g pendrive...Personal things, pictures, assignments, notes, songs and many more.So I tried to trace my steps back and I realize that I've must left it yesterday afternoon around 2 something at the PC lab because I was there to print my Creative Writing piece after Firhan. So I went to the librarian named Dafi and he search for it but it wasn't there.*cue the sound of my heart almost falling out of my chest*

So I went out, search the insides of my car but it wasn't there either. It couldn't be at Hanna's or my grandma's house because although I went to both houses yesterday,I distinctively remember that I didn't took out my pendrive from my bag.So I went to ask my friends opinion and Nazri was kind enough to follow me and see the librarian and ask whether we can see the CCTV footage. So we went to see En.Meor and he was okay but then this one dude was like so poyo like ookay. He was like I need to make a report to the Pengawal Keselamatan and then only can I and the Pengawal watch the CCTV footage. And as Naz & I left the library,of course I cried(a little laa) because there's so many things in there.SO MANY!!!!!!!!!!But Naz was like, you should do the report after class. And I asked some of my other friends and Syed also told me to do a buletin/notice asap and give a reward to the finder.

So after my 2nd class,I went to lodge a report and the officer in the office was very nice to me and it wasn't hard to do so ( I guess because before this I did lodge a report before when my purse went missing & the guards manage to find it for me..I have to say they're efficient when it comes to finding missing things...).So during my tutoring thing,I got a phone call.It was around 4pm I think and the librarian,Dafi, called me and said that he has found the pendrive(because if he put the pendrive in the computer & my name will appear as I named it after me).And he described the look of the pendrive and I was like thank god!!!!phewwww.What a day!!!

What is sleep?ahah

The title is due to the fact that I haven't been getting much sleep these days...What with the tests(tomorrow is my Japanese listening & writing test--which I haven't study for!!!arghhh),obligations, commitments, tutoring and so forth and so on....I feel like ditching each and everyone of my classes and get everything done.I couldn't even help adjudicate the 2nd Intec Battle of Minds debate because it clashes with my weekend activities and my tutoring...huk2.I miss adjudicating debate so much..If I go to the 2nd Battle of Minds then it'll be the 9th debate tournies that I've adjudicated for..wooohoo!Nevermind,there's still VC Cup 08' & Royals(Debat DiRaja) in UIAM to look forward for!

Add to my list of things to do or things that possibly will blow my mind soon....during last night PMFP's meeting..my brilliant friend that was Hanna, along with her sidekick,Furkan, manage to rope me in as the VP for the upcoming Kursus Kepimpinan, which will be at Frasers Hill..yippeeee!!!Like Furkan said,I have to 'comolot' with Hisyam..(since he's the Prez).Thank God it'll be after the finals but still the preparation will be before it so...haih..I'll be looking like a zombie by then..hahah.After discussing for almost 2 hours about the array of business opportunities for us to embark in with the ever-moving-at-a-rapid-speed-business-mind that is Fazirul,we talked about nature, camping trips(mrk laa...aq & Hani mane la reti camping2 nih..haha),scary 'encounters' in the jungle and the fact that Hanna and me have been talking of joining UiTM's rock climbing club since 1 YEAR ago but never did..ahakzzz.

From all of it,we've planned out many things after the finals like TB(can't wait!!!!!!!!!),and the kayaking/rock climbing/jungle trekking(all of these things I can do okay!Don't judge a book by it's cover!) thing with Fazirul(like Hani said,"if tak jd,aq kayak ko!).So until then,I have to endure all of this and look forward to what awaits..huhu.Oh,and being in a loving and solid relationship won't exactly hurt either...^_^

Long update

Saturday, September 06, 2008 Liyana Hanim 3 Comments

I never thought that I'd love tutoring/teaching..but I come to realize that I do.It has been almost a month that I've been tutoring the two nephews of one of my lecturer and I have to say that it's been fun. They're easy to talk to,they are funny and they make it easy for me to tutor them. Some of the conversations that I've had with both of them during this one month, has been really funny and an eye opener...Just yesterday, one of them pointedly told me ,after looking at some of the pictures on my pendrive that....my forehead is large enough for an airplane to land on...-_-

Oh,both of them, although they're 15 and 16 years old,can drive AND EACH of them have their OWN car..I'll refrain from stating what car their father gave them so that people will not scream "Life is not fair!"..but what I can tell is that each of their car are more expensive than my car!!! T_T ...And the 16 year old one can drift (as in car drift) and is able to pimp up his friends car providing they gave him the money for it...Yeah I guess it's because I have 3 brothers of my own,I find that it's not hard to talk to them and all..

Today has to be one of the best shopping trip with my family(for this month atleast...in a couple of weeks it will be RAYA shopping!!!!wooottt!).In the morning,we went to Shah Alam from Puncak to pick up my brother,Haziq--who's staying at my grandma house cos he's working.I stay at my grandma's house only once a week now cos I drive back and forth from Puncak Alam to Shah Alam & I stay at Hanna's place once a week too...---,or the bouncer(cos he looks like one..although he's 3 years younger than me,he looks much older, taller & bigger than me so yeah,he's like my bouncer!).It was looking like a great day because we haven't gone out as one whole family in a long time cos' me & my brother is always busy and whatnot.

We went to KL to shop and I bought....Firstly,do not judge me by how many things I buy today..Like a very very good friend of mine told me yesterday.."Who would've thought that the once 'budak hingusan' that was you,has become independent, standing on your own two feet, driving back and forth from Puncak Alam and have a stable paying part-time job(actually,I have 3 part-time jobs..hehe...one is the tutoring thing, another is a lucrative part-time job thanks to a friend who told me bout it &lastly is the baking business--cookies order for Raya are trickling in!) "...or if you still think I am a spend thrift, read this quote from Sophie Kinsella's article in the latest issue of Harper's Bazaar..."I’ll never stop shopping; I’ll never feel guilty about it or stop taking joy in it. Why should I? With every spree, I’m giving myself a mood-enhancing buzz, I’m boosting the world’s economy…and I’m getting all this gorgeous stuff. Really, what’s not to love?”

Today I bought 4 bags(a sling purse,a cute hand bag,one big chic It bag & one flowery bag..I didn't took pictures of them because it defeats the purpose of buying them!!!haha),6 headbands(thin headbands in silver, gold& bronze,2 paisley print & 1 dark blue)a floaty top with satin flowers on the neckline AND a new butterfly---my fondness for butterfly started when I was little and it my collection of butterfly stuff has of course expanded ever since then.I have many, many butterfly tops,a print dress, many pendants/necklace...huhu---comforter for my bed(buhbye to my baby blue comforter that has been with me since I was 12 and has traveled with me & my family when we move to Penang & Seremban...I'm gonna miss u!).

Bukak puasa food...What is this? It's Masak Asam Batang Keladi...yum!!!The first time I had this dish was early last year with Hanna..I still remember it,after class both of us would hop off from the bus mini(yes I do take the bus mini back then when I didn't have a car to go to class from my apartment) & we would go to Seri Soga to buy our lunch & there they sell this dish. But it's hard to see this dish nowadays since preparing batang keladi is NOT easy...If you pick wrongly,it could be poisonous or it could make your body itch!! Today's spread...It's not excessive because the bouncer(aka my bro Haziq) will help finish them!
My favorite, favorite sweet treat during this fasting month...DADIH!!Back when I was in Form 3,there was this pakcik who sold dadih outside of SMK Seksyen 9,Shah Alam & I would always buy it from him as I wait for the school van to pick me up...Thankfully in Puncak Alam,a stall opened at the Ramadhan Bazaar, selling a myriad of flavors & so far I've tasted Strawberry,Blueberry,Honeydew,Apple&Chocolate(I eat like 3 dadih everyday..after bukak puasa laa..).I haven't tasted Mango & Sweetcorn though..maybe tomorrow..hehe

Oooh I've been meaning to post about this letter below since last week but I always forgot!!!
I'll end this post with this letter that Mia wrote to Modern Man--aka Jack her ex-fiance,in the 3rd episode of Cashmere Mafia...Ok firstly, for you who haven't watch Cashmere Mafia..Mia & her fiance,Jack was pit up against each other for the editor post and the minute Mia won,Jack dumped her, just like that! And then he never ever contact her at all!How stupid and mean is he??So,as his last issue for Modern Man,he made this front cover of the magazine of a woman, eating a man with a fork(I don't remember exactly what was on the cover) and Mia,being the editor for the magazine, wrote this letter for the readers but of course it's directed to Jack..

Dear Modern Man

You know what this modern woman wants for breakfast?
Maybe oatmeal.
Bacon and eggs if she's craving protein.
Definitely coffee.
But relax,I'm not gonna have you for breakfast.
So please don't be such a wimp about woman at work.
It's high time to accept the fact that a woman might not just be your co-worker,
she could be your boss.
And you're gonna have to be prepared to deal.
To be a man about in it in the true sense of the word.
Sure, more working woman means more competition.
But instead of being threaten by it,be challenged by it.
Let's bring out the best in each other.
Win or lose,if you're a good sport,everybody wins.
Until you get your head around this...
You'll be on your road and I'll be on mine.
I hope at some point,we'll meet in the middle.
Cheers,
The Modern Woman.

Woooosshhh!!!

I haven't blog in 3 days(a personal record of bussiness!!)...Had assigments, tests, tutoring sessions...Hence the sound of life passing me by which is the title for this blog...Today I had my Japanese oral test with Napisah & thank God everything went well...although we woke up super late this morning..huhuh.And then I had my sociolinguistic test(I love the textbook,I'm not kidding here..Just like I love my Sociology textbook which puzzles a lot of my friend..haha).

It's the 4th day of puasa & I manage to sahur & breakfast(not breakfast but break-the-fast) with my family for 2 days in a row..but yesterday I didn't manage too because had Koko at night...which at some point in the class last night I seriously felt..for the first time ever, that I wanted to take an axe and slice it through someone's head with one felt swoop..With the 'crack ' or 'dush' sound echoing in the class..I told the girls and they were like,'sabar liyana' and I was like..that word doesn't exist in my vocabulary...muahaha.I'm kidding!!!It wasn't that person fault actually but he was babbling about nonsensical things that I was getting really really annoyed...I was stressing out about the fact that I haven't memorize my kaiwa yet at that time and the fact that I have the sociolinguistic test after kaiwa...My head was spinning but after the class had ended and I nibbled some chocolate coated cookies(some people say that chocolate is better than sex..haha.Remember the scene in Down With Love where Barbara Novak ate a bar of chocolate because Catcher Block was turning her on???ahaha)..I was back as my cheerful self and my friends were super glad because I was starting to freak them out..ahah...

Something to ponder about...
I don't get it why some men thinks it's okay to have a girlfriend and have another girl on the side too.Call me prudent or conservative or whatever but to me,once you commit to a girl or a guy,you C-O-M-M-I-T to them.Is it so hard to stay faithful to one?Granted, you're not even married yet but you have a girl on the side..what is up with that? You have the looks, the brains but you use it to grab as many girls as you can?At the end of the day,are you truly happy with what you've become??

On a totally different note too, behind a great man lies a woman who shaped him to be great.Don't you think so?I have several real life examples(case in point:--Hafriz & Izlin..she made him become more mature..ahah...Sometimes I think... he is becoming more mature than me too!!cisss..hahaha) but I won't put it here as to respect the low profile couples...ahah.But there is this quote that I saw in the current issue of Instyle(which I left in the car & the price have rise again..I bought the September issue for rm26!!!Last month it was only rm17!!) about how Joshua Jackson..wait I think it goes like this..The quote was from this actress called Lena-something and she said that before this,Joshua was a diamond in the rough but with the love of a good woman(that will have to be the gorgeous Diane Kruger),he become Harry Winston worthy(the famous jeweler)..
