Subhanallah

Subahanallah.

Segalanya seperti menjadi kabur.Adikku hampir menemui ajal?

Miscommunication

Friday, August 28, 2009 Liyana Hanim 0 Comments

Miscommunication can wreak havoc on a lot of things.Lesson learned.:)..Sorry to the person involved..:)

Oh thanks to mama who's very patient with me despite my temper tantrum..huhuh..she bought me a necklace,a pair of black velvet ballet flats & a pretty Paris t-shirt..Thank you so much!!

My brother's friend car got badly hit in an accident & my brother was in it..They were on their way back from Johor to Shah Alam & the accident happened somewhere near Senawang...Thankfully he's okay(no injuries..syukur alhamdulillah) though heard the car is definitely not...In my next post,I'll blog about the various kinds of reckless drivers that I've encountered...hahaha.

Have you guys watch Anak-Anak Ramadhan on TV3 at 6.30pm on weekdays?I watched it today for the first time because my mum was talking about it..The little kids fasting are just so adorable..Hafiz Lau you're so cute!!!

Ghost of girlfriends past, trailers & magazines

Wednesday, August 26, 2009 Liyana Hanim 2 Comments

Back to blogging in English.:)

I watched The Ghost of Girlfriends Past recently & although a review said that the movie, ‘wasn’t as deep as McConaughey’s dimple’,the movie actually reminded me of something that I’ve been meaning to blog about a long time ago.

Oh,the point that I’m making is that,I used to know a guy who was sort of like Connor Mead and he became that way because someone that he loved hurt him badly and thus, like Connor,he didn’t want it to happen ever again & in turn, although he doesn’t know it(I hope he does now),he denies himself the opportunity to let true love in because he has ‘The Fear’.

Yes,’The Fear’.The fear is mind numbing & it can overwhelm someone & back then I thought that this was just a bunch of BS.That if you love someone or if you truly like someone, there’s nothing stopping you from eventually committing to that person,or so I thought.
But watching it play out on screen..it actually rangs true. I’ve been on the receiving end of the fear and when I think about it,it’s understandable to the guy who had ‘the fear’ thought sadly, it doesn’t make the situation or the guy sounds any better of a person.

In the movie,Connor mentioned or was it one of the ghosts?,that he left Jenny after wooing her for weeks the moment that she managed to make him fall in love with her because he knows that she has a power over him & because he doesn’t EVER want to feel the pain of the fact that she can leave him, cheat on him or die and he’d be an emotional basket-case .Yes,I’m talking like a shrink now.

But it’s TRUE.I’ve seen it unfolds in front of me in real-life.I thought the movie was okay.I’d give it a solid B.Oh,here’s a trailer of a movie that I can’t wait to watch..it’s how Woodstock came about & funnily the director is Ang Lee!No joke. The movie is Taking Woodstock.

This is also a movie that I’d love to watch,St.Trinians cos’ it looks like a hell of a good time with a bunch of weirdly fun characters.

New York,I Love You looks to be awesome..akin to the in the making star studded Valentine Day.

And lastly,Whip It.Woohoo!!It’s the chick from Juno,Ellen Page & this movie is directed by Drew Barrymore..love her!

BTW, recently I bought this magazine called Nylon & I’ve to say I love it. The layout is just beautiful & I’ve to say this magazine will be another one that I’ll buy every month along with InStyle.I’m sorry to say but none of our country’s own fashion magazine can compare to any of them. They suck!I so need to change that..in a few years time..who knows?:)

I bought the September issue of InStyle(Jennifer Lopez is on the cover!Hawtness)yesterday after 'berbuka' with acad, moja, azri & fira.It was rm21.90 instead of the usual rm17.90..hmmm..Maybe because it's the 15th anniversary issue..They had this page in the magazine with all the front covers throughout the 15 years they've been published & I remembered some of the covers, dating back to when I was 15 years old because that was the age that I started buying InStyle..:)

Pinjam Meminjam

Wednesday, August 26, 2009 Liyana Hanim 5 Comments

Pinjam Baju

Pinjam Duit

Hah,ni memang isu sensitif.Sebab semua orang pernah buat kan?Tapi aku macam bengkek la bila orang yang pinjam duit tuh, kata takde duit nak bayar langsung, tapi boleh je berseronok ke sana sini, memandu kereta jauh2,pergi balik...hah???Siapa nak jawab tuh?Kot ya pun, bayar sikit2 pun takpe dari senyap jer berminggu2.Sebab dulu orang pernah buat kat diri, dia marah tapi alih2,dia pun buat begitu.Lumrah hidupkan?Tapi untuk menjaga sebuah persahabatan,paham2 jer lah.

Persis Taylor Lautner & Murtabak

Tuesday, August 25, 2009 Liyana Hanim 3 Comments

Taklah jauh mana, dekat jugakla beberapa meter.

Aku pun pandang lah.Eh,Taylor Lautner!ahaha.Benda ni aku dah khabarkan di Twitter & blog kawanku,Ninot(kerana dia team Taylor Lautner/Jacob).Jejaka itu muka sebijik macam Taylor Lautner.SEBIJIK!Tapi dia tak segagah or dalam BI ‘as buff as’ Taylor Lautner.Dia kurus sedikit.Tapi bila aku tengok muka dia,tak berkelip mata ini.Dahlah dia teman mak dia membeli belah.Comelnya.hehe.

JPJ semakin efisyen?

Tuesday, August 25, 2009 Liyana Hanim 6 Comments

Dahlah ngantuk giler.Pakcik tuh pulak kate..."Takde,tingkat 1 jer".Ok,aku cakap terima kasih & naik tangga.Sebab aku ingat lif kat tingkat 1....-_-

Alkisah, aku sampai tingkat 1,tengok kiri kanan..Eh,mana lifnyer??MANA??Tiba2 aku tengok pintu belah kanan ada no.6 sebesar2 alam sebelah dia & atas pintu tuh dia tulis ape ntah pasal nak renew lesen...Aku macam...LERRRRRRRRR...Sah2 la aku memang weng sebab mana ada TINGKAT 6???PINTU 6 LAAAA..Adoissss....Jadi,patutla pakcik tuh pelik bila aku tanya kenapa takde lif?hahahahaahahahahahahaha..MEMALUKAN BETUL.-_-

Ambik nombor giliran dekat kakak di sebelah kanan pintu yang pakai mask(bagus, org kat KFC 18 tak pakai pun!hisshh).Kakak tu pun baik & ramah...Bagus la orang JPJ nih...mungkin aku ni ada persepsi orang kat JPJ garang2 sebab kenangan waktu ambik ujian memandu(ngeri!!!).Aku pun dapat no 156..tengok kat skrin amende tuh, sekarang nombor 152...tak sampai 1 minit, jadi 154,pastuh 155..pastuh aku.Woaaah..cepat giler!!!

Aku pergi kat kaunter 14...Belum sempat aku duduk dengan beg sandang aku, kakak kaunter tuh..GELAK KAT AKU.Mungkin sebab aku punya 'body language' macam agak cemerkap(clumsy la..tuh pun tak tahu ke??keh222)..tapi takpe sebab gelak kakak tuh comel & dia pun pakai mask.Aku duduk, bagi gambar & bayar..BEREIHHH(konon beres dalam gaya dialek apa ntah?).Fuyooo..Aku tengok jam, baru 10.34...4 minit jer????Giler pantas!Aku pun cakap dekat kakak yang baik no.2(no.1 yang kat kaunter tepi pintu tuh la...),'Selamat Berbuka' dengan ceria sebab dia baik..Memang senang la nak ceria dengan orang yang baik dengan kita..:).Terima kasih warga JPJ Padang Jawa!

Kepoyoan

Monday, August 24, 2009 Liyana Hanim 15 Comments

Nanti berkarat pula bahasa melayu aku.

Tapi sekarang terbukti aku dah nampak semuanya.Terima kasihlah banyak2.Lepas ni jika susah carilah kawan2 dikala senang kau tu.Titik.

1st day of puasa

Monday, August 24, 2009 Liyana Hanim 0 Comments

Haven't blog in awhile because procrastination has taken it's toll...hahaha.Baked some choc chip cookies that friends ordered...I'm also currently reading Anna Karenina by Leo Tolstoy because Martha Stewart said it's one of her fave & I have to watch Martha every night before I go to bed when it's on the tv...yeah,pretty weird.

Oh, I freakin' left my pendrive back at my parents house...shitzzz...Hopefully tomorrow they'll come & bring it here as I've 3 assignments to complete this week & send...haih...I wish everyday is a holiday...

Look at the picture below---consumerism at its finest..hahaha.Because there’s 6 of us in the family & everyone has different taste in food..you get the drift..:)

The menu + name of people who consumed it..:P
Nasi briyani(mama & ayah)
Mee goreng(mama & syafiq)
Mee kari(syafiq)
Pak tong ko/crullers/chakoi(the brothers & ayah)
Sate ayam(haziq)
Murtabak(ayah & me)
Kuih-muih(me,mama& ayah)
Doughnut(raffiq)
Roti jala(syafiq)
Sup tulang(haziq)
Nasi ayam(raffiq)
Stir fried spinach( made by mama for me)
Assortment of dadih(me,syafiq&ayah)
Kerabu mangga(made by mama for ayah & her)
Air tebu

We tend to buy food rather than cook it because it’s the 1st day & everyone is here.Plus my brother went back to Johor yesterday & my mum prefer to buy than cook because she has this philosophy that if you can buy it why go over the fuss to make it..which I guess in a way, I’m a ‘rebel’ since I like to make food from scratch..hehehe.

Back to boring assignments..though judging from a friend post who's currently working..I should really appreciate college life before I jumped into the boring & routine of working life..yikes!So not looking forward to that.

Before everything else..look at the pic below..yeaysss!!!!!
After 2 years of driving & this semester I got a 'new' car...yep..Haven't drove the Viva at all this whole semester..this is my new ride since middle this year..I love it because I tower over everyone..keh222...

Below are pics of class U8B when they wash my car during their car wash thing to raise funds for their seminar..My class are a mixture of both(B&C) because or else it would clash with my other class.

Yesterday was a day with the girls..I was relieved to be able to tell them about something that's been bugging me & it was great when actually, they've realize it long before I did..wheewww..So I wasn't a crazy person for feeling that way..hahaha..

Anyhoo, gonna miss em'.Finally got to actually talked to Izlin!!omg..haven't talk to you in so long..huhuh...Cos' she's always back from school at night & I see the girls during the afternoon..Glad that you're doing great--have fun being back home in K'tan!!

An epiphany

Wednesday, August 19, 2009 Liyana Hanim 7 Comments

I miss these girls!!Managed to hung out for a bit at their house, went for dinner, and then a bit of window shopping.Girls,we so need to plan a getaway!!weeeee

But today I read something that kinda snapped something inside of me,in a good way...which is this... *Disclaimer:this entry is solely about me.So no offense to anyone in particular!*

So true & probably why I’ve been thinking why I’m always attracting guys who are very nice towards me BUT they do things that are considered ‘haram’ in my religion. I’m sorry if I offend them here, but it’s true. There has been 3 guys whom I’ve dated who unfortunately does things that I’m not really a fan of which I can’t say here.

I know some people will argue that if he treats you right then why not you just can’t accept him? The problem is, I just want someone who knows his limits & that can make me a better person, not the other way around. I want a good guy.period.

Then I realized that maybe He wants me to realize that I haven’t been a good Muslim all this while,by showing the pattern of guys that I’ve attracted & I should be more diligent in improving that aspect in my life.Although I’m not a bad person,as I am a good daughter to my parents(eceh22) because I always go back every weekend to see them,I actually like spending time with them & I prefer staying at home(unless there’s somewhere or an event that I have to go) than going out.

I don’t drink or smoke,I’m still a virgin, never truly been in a serious relationship either,BUT being a good person doesn’t mean that I’m a good Muslim. Thus, the saying “Lelaki baik adalah untuk perempuan yang baik”(Good guys are for good girls) just keeps haunting me.I need to be a ‘perempuan baik’ and hopefully I’ll meet a ‘lelaki baik’.

But like Hanna said,it can be change & I hope that I will.:)

Duup dee doo

Good samaritan does exist and this week I met 2 of them. One was a very handsome*blush* guy who helped me when I was depositing some money for my brother one night. He was standing behind me & he helped me by pushing the right buttons (on the ATM people!).I was embarrassed as I rarely use the deposit machine & I smiled at him & say thank you & sorry & he gave me a bright smile back...*swoon*.

Another good Samaritan that I met this week, was when I was buying lunch for my family today. I was on my way back but there were lots of cars coming and going that I couldn’t go to the right side of the road .Now, the road that I’m talking about is the exit between Plaza Masalam & the green 24 hours polyclinic. If you want to go to the right side, it’s quite a pickle as you’ve to wait a long time. I must have looked like a damsel in distress in my black Unser when this huge lorry with cars on it...STOPPED in the MIDDLE of the road & made way for me!!!

Thank youuuuuuuu!!!I raised my hand & gave the super nice lorry driver a big winning smile..hehehe. His gesture might be small but he surely made my day. Thus, I vow to help others on the road or be nicer in general..:P

There’s only 1 presentation left for this semester & other assignments are merely write-ups, article reviews & projects. I’ve been filling my ‘lazy’ moments by what else, playing games! I was super excited when I saw the new Nancy Drew game which is Ransom of the 7 ships that I bought it on the spot & have been solving the mystery since yesterday.

And if you’re on my Facebook, you’d know that I’ve been hooked on Scrabble Worldwide in these past few weeks.
Although my stats( more losses than wins) are not that good because I forfeit a lot since stupidly I set the time limit of each game that I played as 2 mins, thus because I have other things to do & not being glued constantly to the laptop, my opponent usually gets tired of waiting for me to make a move & click on the ‘force forfeit’ button. sigh.

But NOW, I’ve changed my time limit to 1 day thus I can sleep, do assignments, eat & whatnot & still continue playing the next day. So far, I’ve beat many people (mostly guys..hahaha) & the word that I got the most score on was DUNES--for 63 points yo!!!What up( like Barney from HIMYM)!!!I even won when I fought(ceh, mcm wrestling pulak) my adjudicator teacher from like 2 years ago—Yunus(lolsssss) & my friend Syahmi & Faiq(who asked me to give up cos’ that time he was leading waaay more than me but I won in the end...lalaalala..:P)..Oh, there’s a chat box there so you can interact with others & I’ve played against people who live in NZ,OZ,UK & even India!

Oh,I know there must be readers who read my blog and go..isn’t she Malaysian..why is she blogging in English.Or people(Malays) out there who scoffs at other Malays(like me) blogging in English instead of our mother tongue..The reason why I brought this up is because a lecturer of mine sums it up nicely in our class this week—from the wise words of Mr. Suthaga, from what I remembered (I think I’m spelling his name wrong..huhu).. “Of course you can’t speak English all the time when you’re back in your kampong(village)..Nanti depa kata hang ni poyo la.But you’ve got no choice and be good in it! It’s your periuk nasi, your livelihood. It doesn’t make you less of a Malaysian if you speak in English.”

So to those naysayers out there,I don’t converse English with my Malay friends outside of my faculty..actually we speak ‘bahasa pasar’…haha. But,I do blog almost 90% in English because I know it improves & enhance my writing skills..I don’t want it to become rusty now do I? Plus, if everybody seems to think that you’ll get better in English just by what you learn in the classroom, that’s bull. It takes a lot more than that & by blogging in English, I hope to be a better writer & make less grammatical mistakes. After all, I am a TESL student aren’t I?:)

I watched the Princess Protection movie last night & I’ve got to admit, although Demi is not as skinny as her bestie Selena in the movie, she’s way prettier. But,I prefer Selena's fashion sense more than Demi..as I've blogged about her in the past..

A big congratulation to my favorite(and my parents too) Malaysian chef,Chef Wan for beating Jamie Oliver,Nigella Lawson & Anthony Bourdain at the World Gourmand Cookbook Media Awards 2009!Plus,he's going to appear on Oprah!!OMG...He's going to become more well-known after that!

Taken from NST online:

Provoked & Gadoh

Wednesday, August 12, 2009 Liyana Hanim 2 Comments

The title of this post refers to a movie that I watched today for my Women Literature class. As a TESL student,we watch movies almost every semester.Several in one semester in fact, for us to evaluate and analyze it.This semester I've watched Spirited Away(which was of course utterly cute & a great movie) for my Children & Young Adult literature and also today, for my Women Lit class,Provoked.Provoked is about domestic violence, based on the true story of Kiran who was abused by her husband for 10 years before she snapped and set him on fire.

I won't tell much about the movie because I want you guys to watch it because although critics wasn't so nice about it,to me it was a necessary movie to be watched by all women.Suffice to say, throughout the movie I kept saying Malay swear words like Babi & sial inside because what the husband did was just shocking. At one point,I felt like taking an axe to his head!It shocked and appalled me to the deepest core because none of my family members have been physically abuse by their husbands.Like what Kiran said in the movie, suffering in silence is not the answer.Oh,the whole class couldn't stop laughing over the bad subtitles(ye la,kami kan pelajar TESL).Case in point:The word 'tumultuous' was translated into '2 month'...What the fish???

It's 8 pm and I only had my meal of the day a few minutes ago. This is due to the fact that I had my Current Issue in Edu presentation at 2pm and I was sort of nervous but the reason that I didn't get to eat until just now is because I was busy preparing and perfecting my slides this morning. And no,I didn't do it last minute but ACTUALLY I decided to change the WHOLE thing a few hours before because I found a much better topic to present.

My lecturer,Pn.Khadijah is amazing because she gave me the opportunity to present WHATEVER issue that I could found on current school situation which was super cool because I get to decide what I wanted to present about.I had a talked about the presentation(with my grp member) & what she wanted out of it a few days before I presented and it was refreshing because she was so encouraging that I made the presentation not on something that we've learned throughout studying.Because initially my group was suppose to present on the type of schools in our country & the system in it.

So I choose to talked about school safety but how racial discrimination and bullying correlates with it.Before I stared my presentation,I used a clip of this movie that I thought Malaysians should definitely watch.Memang pedas ayat-ayat dalam filem itu.But I thought it was necessary because it showed the perceptions about the many races in our country of the 'other'.The movie that I'm talking about is Gadoh by Namron & Brenda Danker that was made for KOMAS(the Malaysian Human Rights org). The movie is available on dvd & it was shown sometime last May but since last semester was the 'rasa macam nak mati' semester because of the workload,I didn't actually realize that it came out.huhu

I chose this part of the movie to present to my lecturer & colleagues because the confessions that they made are exactly what the perceptions of some of us have over each other. Also, the part where Khalil's dad was talking to the Datuk shows that racial discrimination(the UN doesn't use the word racism but racial discrimination instead which I thought is more politically correct) is embedded through our own parents and family members as harsh as it sounds.

I thought some of the confessions, especially the disgruntled Malay guy who kept lambasting the Chinese was effing funny. My advice, take the movie with a pinch of salt because this IS happening & the perceptions that are being said & portrayed in the movie is very true.

Down memory lane & 17 again

Tuesday, August 11, 2009 Liyana Hanim 0 Comments

I watched 17 Again last night and I’ve to make a confession..I was Zac Efron’s fan back when he was in Summerland.Remember Summerland? It was shown on NTV7 eons ago and back then if I remembered correctly,Zac played this so cute character who’s Kay Panabaker’s on and off boyfriend. It didn’t matter that they were little kids..it was just so cute watching him and I loved the show because they live by the beach! How perfect is that?
I always love living by the beach..the smell of the ocean air..Back when I was little, our family spent a lot of time in Langkawi because my mum’s former employee owned a beach resort there..everything was paid for so it was just super relaxing and an ultimate vacation spot for me.I love waking up by the beach.Sigh.I wish I could go back there one of these days though the resort has been sold a long time ago.:(

Oh,17 Again made me laugh many times and I’ve to confess again, when Zac came to the school for the 3rd time in his brand new car & that white-t +leather jacket+ rayban aviator combo...*faints*.He looked so damn hot!Oh,Malaysian guys, you can totally replicate that look by buying a black jacket that’s NOT leather since wearing leather in our weather would MELT you.haha..The weather is uber hot now & because I drive around a lot,I get bad burns on both of my arms that SO doesn’t match my face.

And why the heck is Zac Efron with that always getting naked Hudgen’s girl who’s latest set of naked pics ‘leaked’ on the internet..Can’t she keep her clothes on for God’s sake??But seriously,I wouldn’t mind a boyfriend who dresses as well as Efron..;)Or have that nice head of hair..oh a tip for guys who want a hairstyle like that—keep the look clean like Efron..the dishevelled look isn’t for everyone.

The bad thing about the movie is that there’s some cringe/eww moments because of the whole young Mike with Scar thing..although technically that’s his wife, it’s still sort of gross.Or when his own daughter came on to him..ewwwwwwwwww

Oh,I looked through some old pics that dated like 3 years ago with Izza last night because I finally, after 1 year of abandoning it,opened my Friendster account.ahakzz.I deleted my MySpace account years ago because of crazy perverts..ewww.But I couldn’t bring myself to delete my Friendster account because there’s many great pictures & memories there.

Yesterday I opened it & there were sooo many messages in my inbox—even a former highschool friend wedding invitation that I missed! She was so busy that she send invites via FS & I miss it..though I went to her engagement ceremony a year ago.But it’s great that she has met the one at the age of 22!I have yet to find mine..T_T

So,I browse thru all the old,old pics.I realized that I love to wear red nail polish back then..refer to pics below. But I don’t anymore, cos’ I’ve become lazy to paint my nails..I still prefer red nail polish though. I’ve worn dark plum(which my parents hated because it looked black & dirty..but they never say anything when I wear red..huhuu),lavender,hot pink, pale pink, sparkly pink, bronze & many more.

My mum was even more daring in her polish color choice because I remembered that she wore bright ORANGE back when I was in primary school.haha.I actually want to try deep navy blue but haven’t found the right shade..I saw CHANEL one’s in InStyle but that’s just uber expensive for something that I’ll wear once in awhile.

Back to the guffaws and our self loathing when we looked at our past photos.Izza was questioning some of her outfit choices & expression.I was just appalled at my swollen aka ‘tembam’ & round face back then. Freshman 15 anyone??sigh.Looking back at the pictures brought back many great memories.I remembered looking like crap & wearing the wrong outfit while taking a picture with Dominic Lau aka VJ Dom. Yes, he’s SUPER HOT in real life, nice & really tall.*swoon* And he put his arms around me(same like Zizan Nin did a year ago...lolss)..*faints*.

What I looked then(in my defense, being next to sum1 as hot as Dom,makes any1 looks fugly)

What I look now

Weekend

Sunday, August 09, 2009 Liyana Hanim 0 Comments

Yesterday was a not so productive day for me...stayed at home & laze around my parents house & only came out of the house at night for awhile.I just like being a hermit sometime(not a recluse Yat!!)..It's nice to be able to sit on my bed and watch Gilmore Girls reruns on dvd for the bazillion time & also I gave The Sims 3 another try on my Vaio because a friend talked to me about it.

I slept yesterday at 4 am!yes...haih..Blame it for sleeping for more than 12 hours the day before and because I was so engrossed in reading this biography written by Ekaterina Gordeeva about her late husband & their relationship title My Sergei:A Love Story.I bought the book months ago but since I buy books like 7 or 10 at a time,it'll take awhile for me to finish reading all of them.
I know that a new book by Sophie Kinsella,'Twenties Girl' has come out even days before it did here in our country but I was hoping more for her to continue the Shopaholic series actually cos' I so want to read about how she's going to raise her baby..It will make for a really funny read!

You know what, the more I watch How I Met Your Mother episodes over and over again from season1-4,I realize that the sitcom taught me a lot of things..I love all the theories that Barney spews on the show...Although he's disgusting.he's my favorite character because he's so damn funny & unapologetic for being a man-whore.It's my Friends replacement although I still watch Friends reruns since my aunt has each season of the show.

Today however,as I was sleeping peacefully,my cousin whom I haven't met in years(cos' she lives in Terengganu& now she's old enough to go to uni),called me.Of course I was all like can you call me back later..:P.It was 9.30am for god's sake & it's a Sunday morning kot!!!Who the heck bangun awl2????Anyhoo,my mum woke me up soon after cos' we're going out & of COURSE I was up in a jiff because of any reason to shop!hahaha.

I texted my cousin & we met her after flea market-ing at Amcorp Mall..I saw the purffect typewriter for Izza which got her uber excited..lolss.I bought(well my mum bought for me..kah22..) a pretty top/minidress that's uber cheerful & covered in sunflowers!!!!Yes sunflowers!!How much more cheerful can you get???I can't wait to wear em'..weeeee!Gonna go now!!!byessssss

Lasagna Recipe

Friday, August 07, 2009 Liyana Hanim 2 Comments

This recipe is for Rahika.Sorry because I'm not specific when I'm cooking compared to when I'm baking(because if you're not precise in baking,it won't work..hehe).Lasagna consists of layers of bolognaise sauce, bechamel sauce & lasagna sheets. It's very rich & delicious.Definitely not for those who's on diet!!:)

Lasagna

Lasagna sheets(my tip:boil them until they're halfway not like cardboard anymore..as in not too hard and not mushy!)

Grated cheddar or mozzarella(for the last part)

Bolognaise Sauce(this recipe of mine makes a LOT of sauce!)

2 cans of tomato puree
1 can of tomatoes(take it out & mash them with a fork or a potato masher) OR around 5 fresh tomatoes that has been covered in boiling water, peel the skin & chopped into cubes
2 packets of Ramly mince chicken or beef or any brand
1 can of button mushroom--slice into half
1 stalk of celery--diced
1 carrot--diced
1 big onion--diced
4 to 5 cloves of garlic--crushed & diced
A dash or 2 of dry oregano&basil(I use fresh cos' my mum plants them but dry is good too)
2 bay leaf
A dash of black pepper
Lots of sugar(to counter the acidity of the tomatoes)--around 5 tablespoon(don't worry it's a big pot of sauce!)
Salt

Heat the oil & fry HALF of the garlic.Add the mince chicken or beef & fry until cooked.hehe.Set aside in a bowl or plate or whatever.

Heat some oil in a big pot,add the remaining garlic & diced onion.Add the mushroom, celery, carrot & herbs.Stir it all together for a few minutes.Add the canned tomatoes.Stir, add the chicken.Stir well & then add the 2 cans of tomato puree.Turn down the stove(kecikkan api).Add sugar, salt & black pepper to taste.Taste it!!Add more sugar or salt if you like.Close the lid of the pot and let simmer for 15-20 mins.Ready to serve!!Oh,take out the BAY LEAF at the end(because it's bitter if you put it too long).

Bechamel Sauce(so sorry because I don't measure ingredients!!)

3 cups of milk--around 600 ml
1 stalk of spring onion(titik dgn lesung!)
1 carrot,sliced
Half of an onion,sliced
1 bay leaf
1/3 of Buttercup
1 & 1/2 cups of flour
Pinch of sugar & salt

Heat the milk in a saucepan until boiling.Turn off the heat.Add the spring onion, carrots & onions & bay leaf.Let the flavor infuse for 15 minutes. Then, sieve the milk & throw out the other ingredients that was infused in the milk(or you can save them to make soup).Set aside the milk.

Heat a pan with the butter until it melts.Add some sugar & salt.Add the flour.Make sure the heat is medium.Mix the flour & butter together until it forms into a paste.Add the milk & use a whisk & whisk the mixture until it becomes smooth & thick. It should be custard like, not watery. It it does, add more butter & flour to thicken.Set the bechamel sauce aside.

LASTLY

Use a big & deep square shaped pan that's line with a huge sheet of tin foil(to cover the lasagna later).Put a layer of the bolognaise sauce,2 sheets of lasagna side by side, more bolognaise sauce on top, then bechamel sauce and layer it as many times as you want.Top it all of with grated cheddar or mozzarella, wrap it nicely in the tin foil & baked for 20 mins or so..Enjoy!!

Thank god for the weekend!

Friday, August 07, 2009 Liyana Hanim 0 Comments

The weekend is here & I'm back at home sweet home,my parents house.Though I've many other assignments to complete and a lucrative project on the side to complete..Boring!!!Got good news from my mum which I hope goes well.Lately I've been thinking a lot about a couple of things & it raised a couple of questions on why I've been feeling the way I feel.sigh.It's too complicated to be said here though..:(.Oh,do read Evita Nuh's blog--The Creme De La Crop --I think she's just adorable & so fashionable for a 10 year old girl..

Time and time again I've always wished I had a little sister that I can play dress up with or make her my own real life Barbie(not blond & blue eyes, more like I want to dress her up in pretty clothes!) & share all of my dresses with her...Sometimes it's boring growing up with 3 brothers and being the only girl. That's why I just love little girls..:)..Nevermind,I'll have my own little girl in a few more years..lolsss

Have you guys watched the Alice in Wonderland trailer??It looked so cool! The movie will be out in March 2010.I can't wait for movies of books that I have to come out like Julie & Julia,Eat,Pray & love and the Lovely Bones(all of the books are with Moja because I lend it to Ethos..so any of you that wants to borrow em' better check with Ethos!).The Star newspaper gave Khabir Bhatia's Setem movie 5 out 5 star rating today..Can't wait to watch that movie!

My being at MTV World Stage is a bust!!sigh...Nevermind..There'll be better things to come..Hopefully!But if anyone needs a date to go there,I'm so available..lolsss...

I'm gonna catch some much needed sleep on my super comfy bed...To my friends, always carry your Dettol Sanitizer with you!!H1NI is not a joking matter!

Tea with the girls

Wednesday, August 05, 2009 Liyana Hanim 4 Comments

For tea with the girls last Sunday,I baked a scrumptious lasagna(with 8 layers..yes 8..It was a very very rich lasagna!) & a chocolate meringue pie.The lasagna of course was a success & they couldn’t stop eating it(I baked my first lasagna when I was 15 years old so I’ve perfected it many times)...hehehe.I’m uber glad that Napisah enjoyed it because like she said, the one at PizzaHut was bad.The chocolate meringue pie was a first attempt by me & it definitely need to be served cold & not straight out of the oven because the crust sort of leaked(cos’ I think I put too much butter in the crust).

The pie was very chocolaty & decadent and had 3 layers. The crust was a mixture of crushed milk chocolate digestive cookies + melted butter. The 2nd layer was thick chocolate custard made using Cadbury Bourneville(sorry if I'm spelling it wrong!) Dark Chocolate. Lastly, a layer of meringue. The recipe is in the Baking & Chocolate book at my parent’s house thus,I can’t put it here now.The lasagna recipe is embedded in my head but since this is not a cooking blog,I’ll put up the recipe if people requested for it.:)

I also served a huge platter of durian that I bought in the morning with a pot of delicious strawberry tea.
p/s:I want the new Martha Stewart cookies cookbook!!!!!

Update 2:Super Innara

Wednesday, August 05, 2009 Liyana Hanim 0 Comments

After the tahlil,my family & I went to my parent’s old high school friends house in USJ(my parents have been together since high school) to meet them since it’s been more than 5 years since they last saw them.Uncle Zam & Auntie Lina( I don’t remember her name..huhu,hope this is right) has a beautiful lil girl name Super Innara.Yes,that’s what she claim her name is when I ask her what is her name.

Me:What’s your name?

Innara: (with a serious face) Super Innara.

Me: (aq salah dgr ker??) What’s your name again?

Innara: (dgn nada ko xpercaya ke name aq?) Super Innara!

Her mum explained to me that she tells everyone that her name is Super Innara, even her teacher at kindergarten, because she said that she’s fast like Superman. Her real name is Innara but it doesn’t has Super in front though.

She can play golf, like really play & she has her own set of golf clubs & everything because Uncle Zam is an avid golfer(my dad used to golf but not anymore). She actually memorized all of the different kind of golf clubs & didn’t stop playing golf again & again (she got 3 hole in one!) when we were there, because she has this mini golf lane thing(sorry,I don’t speak golf!).
She was very friendly towards me & I was really taken by her because I don’t have a sister & always want a mini me!!Her mum even said that after this I can come & babysit her if I want.yeay!!Innara only speaks in English okay..haha.

Uncle Zam’s mum is my dad’s ‘mak angkat’ when my dad was in high school & my dad spend a lot of time at their house that even Uncle Zam’s siblings are close to my dad & my mum. After we went to Uncle Zam’s house,we went to his mum’s house which was nearby too.

There, although at Uncle Zam’s house my dad has told them that I can never get marry early,he proceeded to tell the story to Uncle Zam’s 2 siblings. One of them, Auntie Zila(whom we met yesterday at Sunway) was like, “Kenape pulak!Tak baik la kau ni.Liyana, nanti jumpe auntie, kite borak2”(something along that line la),to which my dad laughs because obviously they’ve known my dad since he was a teenage boy & back then was when he started dating my mum.hehe.

On Sunday morning went to the flea market at the Shah Alam stadium with the family,PKNS to buy durians for the girls who are coming for tea & then Shah Alam Mall(or Plaza Masalam as my friends call it) cos’ my family goes there every week since my brothers have been buying their games cd there for years.Thrifted 2 awesome jackets at the flea market for-----only rm15 for BOTH!!!How effing cheap is that??
Went home, prepared the food for the tea with the girls & packed some of my homemade lasagna for my brother,Haziq who went back to Segamat & send him to Petronas to meet his friend who’s driving them back there.

Update 1

Tuesday, August 04, 2009 Liyana Hanim 0 Comments

I haven’t blog in awhile because busy with reality..hahaha.My AE(Academic Exercise/Thesis) is bumming me out because I’m stuck, as in I don’t know what to write anymore & finding credible research & journal for my topic has been uber hard eventhough I spent 2 days at the journal section of the library..sigh.

On a fun note,I did a lot of great things during the H1N1 break..Talking about H1N1,I’m getting pretty paranoid because of the fact that I read in the paper recently of the 6th death involving a young boy whom his parents said had no symptom whatsoever & only had a 1 day old fever & suddenly he died.Super scary man!Now I’m getting extra cautious & bring my sanitizer everywhere & will buy a mask pronto.

Went shopping at Sunway with my brothers & mum last Friday.Got a bottle of Vera Wang Princess thanks to my mum(though she took the satiny body lotion that came with it,which is okay since I’m using a different lotion).Mama bought a Dior perfume..can’t remember the name but it’s in a pastel pink bottle.Met an old friend of my parents,Auntie Zila there with her niece Nadirah.Got my fave cheese croquette & cheese+mushroom sausage at Jusco..got I love the combo of those 2 food.yummah!

Friday was also my parents 23rd wedding anniversary. My dad bought a cake straight after work & ask my mum not to buy it herself.huhuh.23 years of marriage & they were together since they were 18 I think...& they got me a year after they got married(I’m 22!).Hopefully,if all goes well,we’ll make a big one for their 25th wedding anniversary!!

On Saturday was my grandma’s tahlil & Izza & Wan showed up although it was a bit late, there was still yummy food for them.hehe.The other girls was back with their respective families but they came to my house on Sunday.Below are pictures of the preparation during the tahlil. And yes,the house has been red carpeted ever since I was a baby..hahaha.So we always walk on the red carpet everyday!lolsss

A lot of our relatives came & the food was catered & was delicious.Although the caterer serve dessert too, lots of the guests brought kuih like Kak Hani’s friend brought Koci Durian(sedap giler!),some of my mum’s cousin brought karipap, banana cake, more koci.

My cousin Firdaus became an exhibition after the tahlil because my aunts & my mum kept telling people about his accident.Even Izza & Wan came upstairs to see him.

He got hit by a lorry while driving his friend motorcycle,on the way to class at UiTM Segamat.Actually, according to Umi(my aunt & my siblings call her Umi since we were little cos’ our families are very close with each other)he looked much worse before this but still I was shocked when I saw him that morning. He had many, many scary looking stitches, wound & scars & his left foot was cemented.Glad that he’s doing okay though. He’s going to have to eat lots of Ikan Haruan & gamat to heal his wounds & scars.
