FRIENDS FOREVER!!

Like Izza said...'dzuuuuuper'...hehehe.

Yesterday, woke up,suppose to send my brother to my grandma's house at 10 but stretched until 10.40 am...My face was swollen from last night because I was bitten by a strange bug but I had no time to go to the clinic. As I was driving,I worried that the peeps might arrive at KTM Subang before I did..huhu.Around 11.20,sampai my grandma's house, called Hafriz since he has no credit.Got the bad news that KL Sentral operations was halted until 1.00 pm!Izza was stucked at Bangsar. So I called her and ask her to go to Sentral and wait there with Hafriz while I drove from Shah Alam to pick them up.

When I got there, the friggin police didn't allow cars to pass true KL Sentral main entrance...SOOOO I had to turn back...I was like how the heck can I pick those two up then??So I drove again to the main entrance and made an illegal U-turn and waited for them behind the police van(cos' they were manning the entrance).Luckily the police just buat dunno when I stopped my car at waited for my peeps there.

After a few minutes of standing there and giving confusing directions(It went like this..."Aq kat bwh billboard VIOS,bwh Meridien...kiri aq Putra...LOL!) to Izza..around 12.30,they allowed cars to go through the main entrance, picked the peeps up & Izza drove my car to Sunway!!Yeayyyy!!!!The peeps was muy impressed with the fact that I manage to find KL Sentral without getting lost..yeay me!!!hehe

Had lunch at Ole-Ole Bali-I looked it up through food bloggers beforehand, & apparently it's really yummy..& yeah it was!!Really2 good food!Glad that we didn't go to eat fast food...I'm the birthday girl so they had to go with my choice of place to eat..^_^.Thanks Hafriz for treating us!!!The lime barley cooler there was such a delicious drink...My throat becomes dry when I think about it...heheheMy grilled chicken apokat(grilled chicken with garlic ciabatta bread, coleslaw& avocado/apokat)..sooo damn good!!!Even Izza says so!Nasi campur ole-ole made Izza go bonkers!Hafriz had the nasi campur ole-ole also..

I looked mighty weird with my swollen face.Hafriz thought that I was getting more chubby when he looked at me,but when both of them got a better look at my face,it was indeed swollen(went to the doc last night & he said that from the inside of my mouth also can tell that it's swollen..).

Then we watched SEPI!!!!!As I told Hafriz,I am a 'sepi' person so this movie is so right for me..It was good.It was Izza's 2nd time watching it but she doesn't mind.Afdlin is so cute in it.But I still love Pierre!!!sigh...hehehe.I'm sure Hafriz has blog about the movie but I'll do it on Monday.Cos' I'll be pretty busy this upcoming days...^_^...It's hard being famous(taken from Acad..hehehe)!

I have done so much shopping in this past 2 days with the birthday money that I got from my parents,my brother(he's younger than me but he's working currently before entering the uni,so he has quite a big paycheck for someone his age & it's great that he gave me some of his money!!!hehehe),my aunts & my grandma.

Bought 2 pair of shoes,an Elsa Peretti for Tiffany & Co -esque necklace,a hairband(I have so many now...must be Blair's influence..hehe),a new eyeshadow/blusher palette with 6 cool eyeshadow color of my choice & 1 blusher(my old one got lost somewhere..oops!)&In-Style July(love the plastic Balenciaga sunnies that Anne Hathaway wore in the mag...it's round while mine is square!!sob sob).

Have soo many more things to write but...arrghhh so damn tired! Was at Putrajaya from 8 am till late afternoon today!!Shop, shop again there while helping my mum too.And drove for like 2 hours straight after that...(don't ask why!!)..muehehehe.

Malaysian city bans heavy make-up, noisy high-heels: report

AFP - Tuesday, June 24

KUALA LUMPUR (AFP) - - A Malaysian city has banned Muslim women from wearing brightly coloured lipstick and noisy high-heeled shoes to work, the national news agency Bernama reported.

City officials in Kota Bharu, the capital of conservative northern Kelantan state -- which is run by the Islamic party PAS -- distributed a circular to local firms last month to outline the dress code, Bernama said late Monday.

The report said the circular stated that the directive, which targetted Muslim women working in food outlets and other business premises, was aimed at preventing incidents like rape and illicit sex.

It ordered women not to wear thick make-up including bright lipstick, or high-heeled shoes "that gave a tapping sound," although rubber-soled heels were permitted.

The directive said that the headscarf worn by many Muslim women in Malaysia should also cover the chest and not be made of transparent material, and that those who flouted the rules faced a fine of 500 ringgit (153 dollars).

Kelantan, which has been run by PAS since 1990, is the most conservative state in Malaysia. The country's population is dominated by Muslim Malays, alongside large ethnic Chinese and Indian minorities.

The state's rulers have in the past made headlines with laws that require separate queues for men and women in shops, and for imposing fines on skimpy clothing.

However, in recent years the party has begun introducing reforms designed to tone down its hardline reputation and woo young voters.

An official from the city's law enforcement department said there had been an "awareness campaign" encouraging Muslim women to conform with Islamic dress codes "with less make-up and more modesty, including wearing headscarves."

She told AFP that she had not seen the circular reported both by Bernama and a television network, adding there were no laws forbidding women from wearing heavy make-up or noisy footwear.

"It is a ridiculous piece of news," said the official, who declined to be identified.

The sun-the skin no.1 enemy!

Monday, June 23, 2008 Liyana Hanim 1 Comments

Taken from the article Age of Enlightenment by Laurel Naversen Geraghty of Allure Magazine.

NASA defines "radiance" in relation to the origin points of meteors;for earth-bound physicists,"radiance" means emanating heat. For the skin, however, the term is more difficult to pin down. The most radiant skin is free of discoloration, according to Procter & Gamble researchers, who found this quality can make a woman look as many as 20 years younger than a woman with mottled skin.

Many dermatologists define radiance as the skin's ability to reflect light---something that's determined by its texture."Heaps and valleys of dead skin cells do not reflect light well,"explains Leslie Baumann, professor and director of cosmetic dermatology at the University of Miami.

What these dermatologists' definitions have in common is a reverence for clear, glowing skin. And the desire to fit the bill is widespread. "Women of every ethnicity are hugely concerned with it,"says Amy B.Lewis, assistant clinical professor of dermatology at Yale Medical School."Fair women are sun-sensitive and get blotchiness and freckling; many Asians crave lighter skin;and when African-American and Indian people have a pimple or a rash, they often get hyperpigmentation-dark splotches that can last for months."

But the true source of many pigment problems, you've heard it before and you'll hear it again,is the sun.Without sun protection, radiant skin could remain elusive as the origin of a meteor shower.

When in doubt, blame any skin problem on the sun.
"The production of tyrosinase--the pigment-creating enzyme--is a direct result of being in the sun,"Ranella Hirsch says."People will get a temporary improvement from a(skin-brightening/whitening)treatment,only to get instantly worse when they step outside without sunscreen(!!!!!!)".

But blindly slathering on SPF 60 won't cut it.SPF ratings correspond only to protection from UVB,the sunburning rays, not the deeply penetrating UVA light, which causes pigment problems.
(I guess, that's why there are friends of mine who uses cream with SPF as high as 100+ but it doesn't help their skin at all!)

Inspect the ingredients to make sure a sunscreen contains a potent UVA filter, such as Mexoryl,or a stabilized form of avobenzone, such as Helioplex, and wear it every day,year-round
."My melasma patients say they use SPF 30 every day and can't understand why they're not getting anywhere,"says Lewis."But as soon as I put them on a really good UVA blocker, like Mexoryl--boom,they start responding."

------------------------------------------------

I can't wait for this two products from Neutrogena(from In-Style BEST BEAUTY BUYS 2008) to be available in Malaysia!!!(or is it already here??Have to go & check it out!)

1.Neutrogena Ultra-Sheer Dry-Touch Sunblock SPF 55-
"Afraid of breaking out from your sunscreen?Dermatologist say this is the right choice for you.'It has a light, creamy texture that melts into your skin,"says Wellesley,Massachusetts derm,Elissa Lunder.

2.Neutrogena Ultra-Sheer Body Mist SPF 45-
"I can do my back myself with this spray," says NYC derm Debra Jaliman."It leaves no residue and it provides great UVA & UVB protection."The lightweight formula is also good for acne-prone skin, says Jaliman.

Two products that has Mexoryl that was featured in In-Style April 2008 Best Beauty Buys is

1.Lancome UV Expert with Mexoryl SPF 20

2.La Roche-Posay Anthelios SX Daily Moisturizing Cream SPF 15-the best of the best because I have read about it not only on In-Style magazine but I'm sure that it will be expensive once it's available here!!!

Sensitive skin..the most expensive skin of them all!(to Hana's question)

Monday, June 23, 2008 Liyana Hanim 3 Comments

Before I start with the list of products for Sensitive skin....

I have been buying In-Style magazine since I was 15 years old and I try to give past issues away to hospitals like HUKM(so if you see old In-Style magazines in the lounge area /waiting area...that's my old ones!).But I haven't thrown out my In-Style magazines from the year 2005 until now...If I have no space left in my room..then I'll give it away.hahaha.

I cannot stressed the fact that it is the best fashion/beauty/lifestyle magazine in the WORLD to me & how I wish that our country has a magazine that is as great as it(because currently we don't have any that even come close to the excellent quality of In-Style content which is why at the age of 15,I didn't mind forking out rm25 for it.Now the price for an In-Style mag is RM17.90!!)

Okay, every year,on the April issue of In-Style,they have this annual BEST BEAUTY BUYS,a long list of of lotions and potions that was tested by them and surveyed by 200 experts!!This year,184 experts team up to complete the list from Doctors,Hairstylists,Makeup Artists & Manicurist.

How to do your own facial

Monday, June 23, 2008 Liyana Hanim 4 Comments

Now before I start, here's the picture of the skin products that I use.To Moja...the dark blue tube is the eye cream!

I am a pretty lazy girl...so I tend to do my own facial once in a blue moon but when I do,this is how I do my own facial.Follow it step by step and do it at least once a month and the way the steps that I am doing was taken from the Get Amazing Skin article by Rachael Nichol of Seventeen US Magazine with 17 experts, Christine Chin & Andrea DeSimone, facialist based in NY & Kate Somerville,a celebrity facialist based in LA.

1.Clean your skin with your facial wash.

2.Steam your face for 15 minutes.

How to steam your face

a)Boil a pot of water

b)Pour into a big bowl.

c)You can pour essential oils in the water like Lavender or Rose,or you can put Chamomile tea bags,or chopped mint or lemon peels(I love doing this one!) in it too.Let it sit for a few minutes otherwise the steam will be too hot for you to steam your face over it.

d)Then take a towel and make a tent with your face, putting the bowl in it ,to not let the steam out of the towel & steam your face for 15 minutes.Breathe in as it is good for your sinus too!!Do it like in the picture only cover your face & the bowl with the towel. The girl in the picture is just lifting the towel to show her face...hahaha

3.Now you are ready for extraction!!Extraction is to get rid ONLY whiteheads & blackheads NOT inflamed zits. This is what the thingy for extraction looks like:To use the extractor, make sure that you have a mug of just boiled water because you have to dip the needle in the water for a few seconds, wipe it of with a tissue or cloth(cos' it will be hot)& then you can start to use that round part of the needle( and not the pointy part!!) to scrape your skin of the whiteheads.

Have a box of tissues on hand beside you, so that you can wipe the extractor every time you extract the whitehead & dip into the hot water & proceed again.

*Never ever use your hands to squeeze your spots or whitehead or blackheads!!

*Avoid extractions one week before your period, when you're most sensitive to pain.

*How extraction feels:Pain factor is medium to high, depending on how clogged your pores are.

*Results:Skin around clogged pores will be red immediately afterward(it happens to me too,so don't worry!),but it will calm down in one or 2 days.Since your pores will be clean, you'll have fewer breakouts in the next few weeks.

*Don't wear any makeup(powder or foundation) for the next 24 hours after facial.

4.After extraction, apply a mask(I use St.Ives mineral clay firming mask) and leave it for 10-20 minutes.

*This will calm any redness, hydrate your skin,or tighten your pores, depending on which type of mask is applied.

*A clarifying mask with sulfur or clay=tighten pores and eliminate oils

*A soothing mask with aloe or seaweed=calm irritation and speed up healing of blemishes

*A hydrating mask with honey or aloe=repair skin that has been dried out due to Retin-A or overtreatment of breakouts.

My skincare regime

Saturday, June 21, 2008 Liyana Hanim 10 Comments

I take care of my skin very well. After all,I am a beauty product freak..I don't know how many masks I have tried...haha.But the truth is,I have never ever go to facials.EVER!I guess because I'm scared of the outcome as in what if I go and then my face looks worse after that???Shudders...So I do everything on my own.As in I do my own facials.

A full facial means that I wash my face, exfoliate it and then I steam my face, and then I apply a mask, wash it off, apply toner, eye cream, moisturizer and if I happen to have a zit,I put on the trusty zit cream.

But my normal day-to-day skin regime doesn't include exfoliating, steaming or putting on a mask.I do exfoliate once a week or twice a week if I sweat a lot that week..haha.

Okay...why the hell did I blog about this all of a sudden?Because Hafriz's sweet girlfriend,Izlin, asked me what I used to make me look 'cun' during the hols...heheh.'Cun' means pretty in the Malaysian language.Maybe she was kidding with the compliment...haha.But hey,I grab whatever I can get..LOL!!

Plus..I love beauty products...Have I not mention it before??One of my dream job is to become a Beauty Editor or an Author/Magazine Editor/Lecturer/Restaurateur...yeah..I'm ambitious like that!

Here's a list of what I use for my skincare regime:

Facial wash : Neutrogena Pure Mild Facial Cleanser(this is the best!!I have used since high school)

Toner :Neutrogena Alcohol Free Toner(before this I use Loreal Pure Zone toner but I switch to this and it works as well)

Eye Cream:Loreal White Perfect Deep Whitening Eye Protector SPF 15(essential for people with heavy eye bags like moi!Izza use it as well cos we bought it together..hahaha..But I always, always scold her because she always forgot to use it and then she will talk about how deep her eye bags are..Like Moja!hahahaha.)

Moisturiser:Morning-Olay White Radiance Intensive Whitening Cream & Night-Olay White Radiance Night Whitening Cream

Sunblock:This my dear,is soooo important!!!Protect your skin from the sun because it's ,it's number 1 enemy!
Face-
Loreal UV Perfect XL Block Advanced Fluid Protector & Arms/Hands/Chest-Loreal UV Perfect XL Block Advanced Spray Protector.

Mask:St.Ives Mineral Clay Firming Mask or Garnier's Sauna Mask--really cool because once I put it on,my face feels warm..the 'sauna' effect or Loreal/Olay Whitening Mask..all of them work wonders and use them once a week will do!

Exfoliator:St.Ives Apricot Scrub Whitening or any of St.Ives Apricot scrub are great as well..

Zit cream:Clearasil Ultra Spot Clearing Cream.

Hope this helps you Izlin!!!^_^

There are 3 other seniors of mine who are Cancerian as well.
Other Cancerians includes :

These people are also Cancerians...
  • Popcorn King: Orville Redenbacher,
  • Dalai Lama
  • Founder of Wendy's Fast Foods: David Thomas,
I found this on a website.....

A cardinal (creative and original) sign, Cancer governs home life, matters to do with women (especially the mother), as well as sensitivity and emotional intensity. It is a water sign, so Cancerian people are emotionally intense and deeper than they appear on the surface, while quite sensitive and understanding once you get through that tough exterior.

The Sun, ruler of our inner nature, is somewhat dimmed in Cancer, the home of the Moon. Creative and romantic, with a strong love of home, family and tradition, you are a good communicator and a strong provider. Your deep sensitivity presents you with valuable and illuminating intuitions, especially regarding those you care for.

Powerful Intuition

Paradoxically combining a love of travel with a deep need for security, you surround yourself with sentimental objects from the past, including souvenirs, hand-me-downs and keepsakes. Cancerians are remarkably good at accumulating things; indeed, you can be unwilling to throw anything out, even relationships that have passed their use-by date.

Cancer is also good with money and generally takes a long-term view. The main thing to remember is not to let the powerful, turbulent emotions of the moment crowd out your normally rational judgement. Your intuitions are reliable and should be trusted; you may even have natural psychic powers, which may be developed, given the right circumstances.

Hard Shell

The emblem for Cancer is the Crab, a creature with a very hard shell which protects a soft interior. The crab walks sideways, which is how the Cancerian skirts around a problem until forced to take it on with gritty determination and a creative flair. The crab's large claws hang on to its possessions for dear life, just as the Cancerian collects things to beautify the environment and bravely defends the home turf.

Cancerians make good business people, combining artistry, originality and drive with an understanding of financial matters, marketing and the needs of the public. You can trust your intuitions, but you do need to generate a faith in yourself which will not be dampened by gloom or depression over what, in retrospect, may appear to be relatively insignificant problems. You have the natural ability to be diplomatic and to speak out when necessary or keep your mouth shut. Home and family ties will be significant in your life and developing a secure, comfortable home environment will be a boon to your state of mind, irrespective of your marital state.

Ideal colours for the Crab are white, silver, and pale yellow.
Cancer rules metallic silver, while both the ruby and the pearl are the traditional Cancerian birthstones.
Silver reflects its environment in its shiny polished surface, yet it can tarnish and become dull unless properly cared for.
In the same way, your sensitive nature reflects the people and circumstances surrounding you. The precious ruby, a variety of corundum, is one of the hardest minerals known, while the pearl is soft and easily scratched.
Here we have the two contrasting sides of the Cancerian personality:
hard and determined, yet simultaneously soft and vulnerable.
Cancerian flowers are the water lily (lotus), iris, white poppy, white carnation and southern magnolia.

Friday, June 20, 2008 Liyana Hanim 0 Comments

I'm a huuuge fan of Lauren Conrad(from MTV reality tv show Laguna Beach & The Hills..I still remember Izza & me will watch the shows and discuss it when in fact we are actually talking about REAL people lives!!hahah )...I love the fact that Lauren is such a genuinely nice person who is close to her family and friends and her fashion sense is so fabulous!

And today,I read at Popsugar.com that Chace Crawford(yesh...Nathaniel Archibald from Gossip Girl) has a crush on her!!!!YESSSSSSSS!!!They'd be a perfect couple!!!!Besides,Lauren has had her fair share of bad/player guys from Jason Wahler to Brody Jenner and her on-going-carrying-a-torch for Stephen Coletti(her bestfriend since little).I'm so excited if things happen between them...hehehe

Too truly open myself up and make myself vulnerable to a guy is something that I NEVER could do..or so I thought...

It's hard to admit my mistakes and that when it comes down to it I should have used my head to follow my heart and not just blindly follow my heart.
Shouldn't have let others cloud my judgment either, should have been more understanding and I should have more faith in that person.

Repeat to myself..stop being so stubborn..stop being so stubborn..

But I need more time to think about what I want to say because there's so much that I want to say that I couldn't do before or okay ,I'll admit it,I didn't want to(yeah I should stop being stubborn!).

When it comes down to it,although it has been quite sometime,I couldn't lie to myself anymore and deny something that I shouldn't deny about.Like they say,you can't lie to yourself.

I'm referring to the front page news in The Star newspaper today titled "Tuanku's Rage".I just want to say that it's amazing in this day and age, that there's people who can be so damn narrow minded.Like, hello???There are so many more important issues that those nincompoop should focus on rather than wanting to protest against the singers so that they won't perform at the Sultan of Selangor's Cup.These kind of people makes me want to scream at the top of my lungs and say "GET A LIFE!!!!!!!!!!"!

WITH ME

Tuesday, June 17, 2008 Liyana Hanim 0 Comments

Can't stop listening to this song right now...while imagining wistfully than one day I'll have someone who can sing it to me...LOL

With me by SUM 41

I don't want this moment, to ever end,
Where everything's nothing, without you.
I'll wait here forever just to, to see you smile,
Cause it's true, I am nothing without you.

Through it all, I made my mistakes.
I stumble and fall,
But I mean these words.

I want you to know,
with everything I won't let this go.
These words are my heart and soul,
I hold on to this moment you know.
Cause I'd bleed my heart out to show,
and I won't let go.

Thoughts read are spoken, forever in doubt.
And pieces of memories fall to the ground.
I know what I did and so,
I won't let this go.
Cause it's true,
I am nothing without you.

All the streets, where I walked alone,
With nowhere to go.
Have come to an end.

I want you to know, with everything
I won't let this go.
These words are my heart and soul,
I hold on to this moment you know.
Cause I'd bleed my heart out to show,
and I won't let go.

In front of your eyes, it falls from the skies,
When you don't know
what you're looking to find.

In front of your eyes, it falls from the skies,
When you just never
know what you will find.

(What you will find, what you will find, what you will find.)

I don't want this moment to ever end.
Where everything's nothing without you.

I want you to know, with everything
I won't let this go.
These words are my heart and soul,
I hold on to this moment you know.
Cause I'd bleed my heart out to show,
and I won't let (go).
I want you to know, with everything
I won't let this go.
These words are my heart and soul,
I hold on to this moment you know.
Cause I'd bleed my heart out to show,
and I won't let go.

Ayat-ayat cinta

After reading a blog entry from my friend, on the movie Ayat-Ayat Cinta a couple of months ago,I was so excited to watch it for myself because of Moja's rave reviews. The movie is based from the book of the same name from author Habiburrahman El Shirazy. The main characters,Fahri played by Ferdi Nuril,Maria Girgis played by Carissa Putri and Aisha played by Rianti Cartwright. All three of the main cast are Muslim in real life as well.

To me,Ayat -Ayat Cinta wasn't that great of a movie but overall it was good.Fahri, the main character of the movie is a pious Muslim and admired by a bevy of girls for his charisma, his devotion to his religion and overall,at the start of the movie it seems like he's a perfect person. But as the movies goes,we realize that hey, nobody's perfect...

The review of the movie from imdb is just spot on :
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1198186/.

In choosing Aisha,Fahri might be a tad shallow but then again,he's only human(watch Fahri's reaction during the scene when Aisha unveils her burqa during Taaruf). The movie gets interesting when Fahri was accused of raping Noura. That really got my attention because what a cow she is!Fahri helped her from being abused by her father and reunited her with her biological family but instead she repays Fahri kindness by claiming that he raped her? That really angered me.
The movie also became interesting when we sees how hard it was for Fahri to be fair to both of his wives and we get to see that polygamy is not something that is easy for both the husband and wife.
Ferdi Nuril played his role very well.I admit it,if I met someone like Fahri in real life,I might have a crush on him just like what happened to Nurul,Noura,Aisha and Maria.A good movie but I thought there were loopholes here and there. It's worth to watch though. So go and watch it!

The curse of SYTYCD

Friday, June 13, 2008 Liyana Hanim 3 Comments

When I watched the second season of So You Think You Can Dance this year, during the audition episodes,it brought back memories, the times that me and my friends spend a week at DBKL,for the production of our musical,Whoa Willow!I wonder if the contestants also met the nice and chatty Aunty Selvi and if they were haunted by the ghosts at DBKL(seriously..that place is 'keras'.A number of my friends 'kena' during that one week we were there).

Oh,I finally manage to watch SYTYCD from start to finish yesterday..I haven't really watch the show during the holidays.I have to say,the dancers are really good.I don't remember their names but the 1st 4 couples was very good and so were the last couple.Oh yeah, last year, the reason why I never really paid any interest towards SYTYCD is because of the bad host.Like really...last year my friends and I,in particular Izza(muahahaha),was really, really annoyed by the host...she who shall not be named.Izza will be like, blabbing about her mistakes to me while I laugh at her expressions.But..ugghhh...she really did a bad job as a host for the show!!!It's really, really annoying or as they say, 'mengjengkelkan'.So I thought that since Aishah Sinclair will be hosting SYTYCD this season, she'll do a better job, although my friends doesn't like her either.

So as I watched yesterday's show,I made the conclusion that there's a curse for the host of SYTYCD.That they'll always be bad.Although Aishah wasn't as bad as the former host, she was bad.I watched last week show for like a few minutes and the host just annoys the hell out of me, that I just switch the channel.Seriously..last week she was really, really bad.I was like...doesn't she practice or something before the show? And her Malay is bad too...Like...hello???Just because you're mix-blood takkanlah dah lupa bahasa Melayu.Even the way she pronounce Malaysia in English is laughable & she's a Malaysian kot!!!!Please la find a better host like Belinda or Marion or Rina.Freaking annoying okay!!!

The most action I got early this year

Friday, June 13, 2008 Liyana Hanim 0 Comments

After a whole semester of getting a car and next semester I will use my 'gedabak besar' dad's car a lot to go to class,I can't help but remember the horrific and action packed adventure I had with my lil white baby the first week(yes...the FIRST week) I got it.People usually,USUALLY,get into accidents on the ROAD....But lo and behold...I just had to be original and different than the others!

As I recall,I think it happened early February this year...I was on my way to my grandma's house from Izza's house and it was around 4 something in the afternoon.I stop my car,in front on my grandma's gate and suddenly and I don't know what the devil possessed me and I accidentally put my feet on accelerate instead and...yeah..my car,hit this big gate, you know the ones that bungalow houses has with the gold trimmings and everything..the heavy, heavy ones & to make matters worse,it was locked..so yeah,it was like I was in some action movie or something.

My car vrooommm...hit the gate and the gate fell down with a BANG..luckily,it got under the car not over it or I would have died crushed by the heavy, heavy gate.It made such a LOUD noise that the whole neigbourhood heard it and even the bibiks from left, right and front houses came out to look and my grandma who was about to perform her Asar prayers, came out to the upstairs balcony in her telekung and was like "Ya Alllah!".I was in the car, with the big heavy white iron gate underneath my car,on my right, the trees and shrubs on my grandma's garden made it impossible for me to come out of the car so I had to scoot over and go to the other side.

But of course I was in shock and in my head I was like,"Did that just happened to me?".And I was thinking the fact that my dad will chop my head off, because the first day I drove my car and went out with my friends,I reverse the car wrongly and hit this van in the bumper causing like 4 deep lines of paint from the van stamped on the bottom front of my car.

So,with the right side of the gate stuck under my car(the left side was still intact on the gate),I tried to reverse the car but it wouldn't budge. To top it all off, because of the impact of the crash, the number plate in front of my car fell out.I was panicking, so I called my aunt and asked her to call one of the guys who works for our relative's Esso and thank God when he came and he pulled the gate from under my car,and he put the car in the driveway. But of course there was a big dent on the left side of may car(which a lot of my friends asked about this semester,to which I lied when answering about it..even 1 of my bestfriend,Hafriz..didn't really know because I know that he will make fun of me...now you know brother!!!).

After that,I called my mum and she told my grandma & aunts to not tell my dad because he will chop my head off if he finds out... and then I called Izza to which she and Tatie was puzzled about the whole thing because really..does this happen to NORMAL people??NOOO!!It had to happened to me!!!They even laugh about it afterwards...sob sob sob.And then I texted a few people.Because duh...the whole thing shocked me!!!!Have you seen the size of my grandma's gate and get this, that gate is much, much older than ME!!And of course when my aunt got back, they had to POINT OUT that for so many years, never ever have ANYONE hit the gate with their car before! My friend Syukri who got back from Auckland, called me straight after I texted him and yes, even he LAUGHED on the phone because yeah..only me would think of 'langgar-ing' the gate on my FIRST week(sorry Syuk cause didn't get to hang when u were in M'sia...I know ur reading this!!!^_^..I miss u & I haven't YM in a looooong time cos I malasss!!!).

I thought that I would be able to keep it a secret from my dad but of course, when he came to my grandma's house,he did a thorough inspection of my car and since he has a very sharp pair of eyes,he notice the dent to which my mum was like covering up for me so he shruggged that off but then as he knelt down and inspect the bottom part of the car...he saw that it was a mess!!!He went ballistic and yeah,we fight,I cried. And he took the car to the service center and when he got back,he said that the total cost of repair would be around 1k!!!I was like inside...shitzzzz.Because I have wrecked my laptop monitor, so I need 1k to fix it but now of course my dad won't fork the money to repair that now because of this.I felt so guilty that I didn't have lunch and sleep all afternoon. When I woke up,my aunt 'balaci' to me that actually the cost of repair was only rm200!!But my dad wanted to scare me so that I would be more careful.Hurmpph! So yeah, after that I took great care of my car and had never ever ever got involve in any accident after that...huhu.That whole crash, really,if you were there, looked like it came out of an action-packed movie.muahaha.

P/S:Have you guys seen Chace Crawford's high school picture at Perez Hilton today?heheeh.See,with lotsa grooming, someone can totally looked HOT!!

Money makes the world go round.....really?

Thursday, June 12, 2008 Liyana Hanim 2 Comments

Read The STAR newspaper today, and turn to page 51 and read Brave New World by Azmi Sharom. It's so damn funny and it made me laugh.Because I have met those kind of children in real life..the one who can't stop yapping about the fact that they go to overseas for holidays every year...which bores me to tears and people who have to listen to it too...I just want to say to them...like my mum always love to use this phrase.."So what?"..hahaha.

Recent happenings around the world..the ever rising price of oil has become such a big issue...that it is being discussed everywhere even when I went to the wet market with my parents recently,..the man selling the fruits is talking about it with his friend,non-stop.As I was picking out the mangosteens, choosing the best ones,he,the fruit man,was talking about the fact that it's not that there's no oil, there is,but these people can't afford it.Then the brutal of reality hits me.If I think that the recent rise of oil prices will put a damper on my family expenses, what will become of the people who have even less than me,who have to fill up their car/motor tanks? So yeah, oil subsidies is not beneficial to the poor,it benefits those who are already rich. The gov should give direct subsidies to the poor as they are the one who will truly be affected from the rise of oil prices.

We from the middle-class, can still live our lives with the rising prices of everything from petrol to food ,if we make the necessary changes in our lives. My dad and me will exchange our cars when the semester opens.I'll drive his car to class, while he drives my car to work since my car saves more oil than his.Besides, his work place is much farther than our house and he sometimes car pool with his friends.

Oh yeah, the think that irks me most about money is that there are people who have more money than others who feels that, that instantly makes them far more superior than other people.I have met many well-off people who are incredibly down to earth and nice. They certainly doesn't feel the need to drop how much they earn or what expensive stuff they buy in their daily conversation. But then there are people, who because of some chemical in their brains maybe..feels the need to actually mention to people suddenly, in a normal conversation, the fact that their father has how many million of money in the bank...like WTF?????Like,is that necessary?I have also met people who can't stop talking about money when they go out with my friends.I find it sad that their lives only revolve around money.Sure, money is important.I am not going to deny that fact, but it is not everything! You can have all the money in the world but if you have no one to share it with,is your life worth living? To me,LOVE makes the world go round.Without love from my family and my friends,I won't be happy and contented as I am today.

STARDUST

Tuesday, June 10, 2008 Liyana Hanim 1 Comments

OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!I really, really regret the fact that it took me such a long time to finally watch the movie Stardust. My dad bought the dvd of the movie a few months ago because he's a fantasy movie buff.He loves those kind of movies but I am not really a fan of that genre.I mean,I watch LOTR,Harry Potter,Eragon,The Golden Compass and Narnia because I have read the books beforehand so I wanted to see what it looks like on screen. So when Stardust came out late last year,I didn't give much interest to it.Probably because I was busy with finals or was it adjudicating?I didn't remember but the point is,I didn't get to watch it at the cinema.

Captain Shakespeare(Robert De Niro) & Tristan

But last night,I was bored and since the dvd is picking up dust on my dvd shelf(I took a stack of dvd from my dad to watch, but never did have the time to do so),I picked it up and played it.I finish watching it around 4 a.m.And I have to say, hands down...it is one,or probably the BEST fantasy movie EVER!Amazing, amazing cast. From Ben Barnes,Michelle Pfeiffer,Robert De Niro(love his funny Captain Shakespeare character...hahaha),Claire Danes,Charlie Cox,Ricky Gervais,Rupert Everett(the ghost brothers are so funny!!), and many more.I heart Charlie Cox.Maybe because I have a thing for guys who can pull of the long hair look. It's incredibly sexy to me..hehe.Ben Barnes,Josh Holloway(Sawyer from LOST),Orlando Bloom(in LOTR & Elizabethtown)..all of them looked sexy with long hair..Yummy..hehehe

Charlie Cox as Tristan

The remarkable cinematography in Stardust is to die for.It makes the movie looked incredible!!And I love the fact that the movie has everything from humor,to romance, to thriller, action and fairytale.I am definitely going to buy the book written by Neil Gaiman this weekend.And...yup,I am going to watch the movie again after this...hehehe.It's so good! Thanks to my dad for buying the dvd for keeps!!!!!

Oh,I also recommend you people to watch this classic fairytale/comedy movie which is one of Scarlett Johansson fave movie as well. The name of the movie is The Princess Bride. The movie came out the year I was born so it's hard to find it in dvd form in Malaysia but I have the dvd after searching high and low for it last year. It's definitely a keeper!

Final results are out!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Friday, June 06, 2008 Liyana Hanim 2 Comments

As I was chilling at my house...suddenly I got a very scary text message from a friend saying that final results are out.I was like..what???Wasn't the results suppose to come out on the 9th???Why now???Why on this relaxing day????

With a deep breath and a gulp of the fresh mountain air...I log in and checked my results.And..with a sigh of relief...no C's or failure..hehehe.Mostly B's & A's...wooohooo!!!Now I can sleep with relief...Because before I would fear the impending day where my results will come out because I thought that I did badly in a couple of subjects.Thank God.Scream at my mum that I got no C's and she was like..what's going on??Because I rarely get scream-excited in the house..hehehe.Called Izza after that to share the great news!hehe.Sleepover lets go!!!

Oh,btw I won't be going to Pauls Place because a son of my dad's friend is getting married on the same day & time.Between my family and a gig,of course my family is more important.Besides,I'm sure there'll be more gigs that my cousin will perform at sometime this year.So now I'm looking forward to my birthday!!!This 25th of June I will be turning 21!!yeay meee!!heheh.Bye peeps!

Have you heard about the rise of the price of petrol starting tonight(rm 2.70!!!)???damnnnn!!!It means that next semester I have to spend more money on my car...sob sob sob..Goodbye shopping or going out...uwaaaaaa!!!Tension!!!

Basically what I've been doing is reading stacks of my newly purchased books, watching more downloaded stuff, catching up on the last few episodes of The Hills season 3(I heart Lauren Conrad ever since Laguna Beach season 1 okayyyy & I have all the dvd's of Laguna Beach & The Hills!!hehehe),flipping through my mum's cookbooks to try new recipes..can't wait to bake baguette(ooohhh..I love freshly baked baguette!!!)& croissant(my youngest brother fave).

My reading list...so far I have finish all 3 book by Annie Hawes & Debutante Divorce(it took me just 3 hours to read this..chick lit jer kot!!haha)

Can't wait for my cousin's performance at Paul's Place this Sunday.I am not going to Roxy this Saturday though I got a ticket from my brother because after much contemplation..it will be filled with many screaming teeny boppers(ugghhh!)& mesti sesak giler...yikes!!Besides most of my close friends are not going either...hahaha.Mule2 excited pastuh macam...errrr...xpelaaa..huhu.

Umi's operation went well and she's recuperating at Nenek's house, eating lots of Ikan Haruan soup.My cousin is staying over for a couple of days.Sempit laaa my bilik now...muahaha.Kidding!

I'm a freak because I went to The Atria to buy more books at The Big Bookshop warehouse sale a few days ago.hehehe.Seriously,from a person who has been to various book warehouse sale in more than 5 years, the best selection is at The Big Bookshop.Because they sell a lot of books that you won't get at MPH or The Times. Payless Books warehouse sale, have many books that you won't get at MPH or The Times too but the books are really old sometimes, but I still find great gems there from time to time.

I watched Charm School last night and I was appalled by the boys...What kind of boys are they???Like..ewwww...3 things that irks me off about a boy is bad manners, bad hygiene & bad fashion style..eughhhh.Like,if you have no money to buy clothes..can't you at least look like you bathe once in awhile???hahaha

Ooh,Pushing Daisies will be on 8TV soon, watch it people!I watched the 1st season since late last year...Ned is sooo cute in a bumbling kind of way..hehehe.

L: Oh,God.

H: I spent my whole life wanting something and doing my very best not to find it.Never even going near the places it might be and suddenly,I got the goddamn thing practically chained around my neck.

L: What are you talking about?

H: You.You.You're the....you're...you're the goddamn thing.You're...I mean,you're...you're...Aaaahh...I can't describe you...I don't...I don't....I don't write that kind of shit...I write...you know, the people who write the real books, the love books and the poems and even those stupid little fucking novels with the hunky assholes on the cover. You know...you know what I'm talking about?

You're like, princess shit. You know, fairy tales. You know what I'm saying? The million guys are after her and they're blinded by your beauty kind of shit.Real big stuff you know...even we got the dick who kidnaps you and sticks you in a cave and you're guarded by a 5-headed dragon, and you know, the tales of your plight are spread throughout the land and now all the guys go and put on their shoes so they can see what's up,but none of them have...have the balls to save her except for me.

I would go through anything for you.And still...there I was,looking for a way not to see it.Anything.

L: Stupid idiot.

H: Yes.

L: Yeah.

H: Yes,I'm a big,fat,stupid idiot.

Truly amazing female singers

Tuesday, June 03, 2008 Liyana Hanim 0 Comments

I'm sorry to her fans, but I just don't get the hype with Marie Digby. Her voice is nothing to shout about.BTW,Mandy Moore did a cover of 'Umbrella' long before she did..duh!
Now Regina Spektor..that's a singer with a voice that can do so many things to it--

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Regina_Spektor

I'm going to list some of my favorite female singers here with a favorite video of mine of each of them.

1.Regina Spektor

I discovered her on the net around 3 years ago and have never stop listening to her songs. Her voice is amazing and she likes to make each of her songs unique because of her wide vocal range. Some of her songs make me smile while listening to it like 'Consequence of Sounds',Hotel Song','Poor Little Rich Boy', and 'On the radio'.Her beautiful song 'Samson' made me research what happened between Samson and Delilah.Plus,Disney has chosen her to sing the theme song for the Prince Caspian movie. The name of the song is 'The Call' and I haven't stop listening to it yet.

Consequences of Sounds

On the radio

2.Rachael Yamagata

Izza told me a story about her how she become the girlfriend of that one dude in the Smashing Pumpkins...it was so sweet, how they met each other and such. And then I started to listen to her songs and she sound great! She sound amazing when she sings live...My favorite song is Be,be your love...I used to listen to that song for days...But she's famous for the song 'Worn me down'.

Be be your love

3.Sara Bareilles
I have Sara's album 'Little Voice' loooong before it hit the Malaysian market...It's a great album and I play it all the time in my car.Although most of the songs is about love, the great thing about the album is that each song is very different than the other. My favorite songs from the album is Gravity,Bottle it up,One sweet love, morningside and between the lines.

Gravity

4.Bethany Joy Galeotti
I love, love her character on One Tree Hill(one of my favorite tv shows & still is).She has such a beautiful voice(4 octave,I heard) and I love the song Halo and the song When the stars go blue(duet with Tyler Hilton).

Halo

When the stars go blue

5.Kate Voegele
I loved her ever since she added my on Myspace, sending a message to support her music & then I watched her on the latest season of One Tree Hill & she's great!I listen to her songs on the cd that I burn while I'm driving.I love the song Wish You Were Here and It's only life(which was used for Sisterhood of the travelling pants 2 movie trailer..can't wait for that movie!!!)

Wish you were here

Other favorite female singers of mine are
1)Brandi Carlile
listen to Tragedy, which I almost wanted to use for my group MTV assignment 2 semesters ago

2)Grace Potter
listen to Falling or Flying

Dedication

Monday, June 02, 2008 Liyana Hanim 0 Comments

Dedication is an indie movie that was shown in the US late last year.Ever since I watched the trailer last year,I wanted to watch it but I know that it'll take a looong time before I'll be able to.Probably because I'm a big fan of Mandy Moore..I have all of her movies on dvd, even the stinkers(like Chasing Liberty& Saved). But since it's an indie movie & not the blockbuster-kind,it didn't make it to Malaysia's big screen.I was so surprise to find the dvd last week while I was going out with my cousins.Because of exhaustion,I watched it a day after I bought it.

It was amazing. It wasn't like the normal run-of-the-mill romantic movies. It's different,it's quirky and although I have not watch Billy Crudup before,I fell in love with him in the movie. He's a complete asshole in the movie but I guess that's the charm.Because to think about it,it's better when a guy is an asshole to you up front because when he tries to be sweet to you,it just makes you melt, rather than a guy who's all sweet and mushy to you at the start and then suddenly became an asshole(been there, done that!).This indie movie to me,have one of the best romantic movie script ever! It's definitely real and not sugar coated stuff.Buy it,watch it,ponder about it & keep it.A keeper & must watch!

Updates!!
Some of my favorite scenes/things from the movie is when
a)Henry's one liners on the meaning of life."Life is nothing but the occasional burst of laughter rising above the interminable wall of grief" & so many more Life is....from him.

b)The many quirks about Henry. He has to sleep on the floor,on a mattress with heavy objects on top of him to make him feel safe.He never stirs things clockwise. He never drives a car because to him they're death boxes...hahaha.The funniest part was when he had to drive a car with emergency lights on, to find the rock that he gave Lucy.

c)What a big asshole Henry is,is shown when he met Lucy at the diner,he went on and on about the life of the waitress and.....You have to watch it for yourself!

d)The scene in the restroom between Lucy & Henry ,during Lucy's book signing, made me cry...The lines uttered by Henry is so funny/sweet/sad altogether.

My Fannie Flagg's book collection is completed....except for that one book of hers which is a cookbook but I don't need a cookbook on Southern American cuisine do I?hehe.I bought her latest book 'Can't wait to get to heaven' yesterday.

The thing that I love most about Fannie Flagg books is that the stories revolves around close knit families and neighborhoods, and basically they are like characters from Stars Hollow(Gilmore Girls town) put in a book.Reading her books never fail to make me feel warm and fuzzy.Like soul food. When I was a kid,I watched this made-for-tv movie titled 'Fried green tomatoes' and the story stuck to my mind until I was in university. One day, around 2 years ago,I went to this book warehouse sale and I found this book titled Fried Green Tomatoes at Whistle Stop Cafe.I thought it sounded familiar,so I bought it and read it and I realize that this book was made into that made-for-tv-movie title Fried Green Tomatoes and I have never stopped buying Fannie Flagg's book after that.

Other people got all riled up during mega sale for clothes and stuff, but I get really, really excited when it comes to book warehouse sale & I can spend hours, literally,HOURS,poring over books at warehouse sale and making sure that I don't miss any hidden gems among the piles and piles of books....I love every minute of it!!!I have been to MPH,Times,Payless Books & The Big Bookshop warehouse sale. When I went to the recent Big Bookshop warehouse sale,my family went shopping and left me there because I love taking my time to go over each and every row of books and they get bored standing around waiting for me.hehehe.There were so many great books that I was in heaven.I wanted to buy so many things! For like RM150 you can get around 7 books! That's cheap okayyyy!

My brothers only read Harry Potter or Gempak/Manga so they don't share my excitement with books. My dad read gardening and DIY books while my mum read interior design books so they are not avid readers like me either. The one thing that everybody in my family reads(except for my dad) is Archie comics. My mum was the one who reads them ever since she was little, until NOW,along with Beano comics and when we were little we started to read them too.My mum still buy Archie comics until now and all of my brothers and me still read them.

You know that scene in the 2nd season of Gilmore Girls where Rory when to the library clearance book sale and Dean had to wait hours for her to finish buying books and she got so excited because of the books that she found while Dean was all bored sitting there waiting for her? That is what I am like when it comes to books.

And in season 1 where Rory's grandpa came to visit Stars Hollow and he saw the many books on Rory's book shelf, under her bed & in her drawers? That's what my room is like.Though I have a table filled with media devices, according to the transition of time.At first, when I was in high school,my dad bought me a tv because I have 3 brothers and what I want to watch are totally different than them. And then back then,VHS player was still used,so I got that to.But with time,VCD player came out & I got that. Now,I have a DVD player too which my dad bought for me 1 1&1/2 year ago.The thing I love about my dvd player is that I can burn all of my fav tv shows on dvd from the pc and I can watch it from the comfort of my room,on my tv!It's pretty great because even my dad's dvd player & my brother's dvd player can't play dvd that was burn straight from the pc...Oookay,I sound like such a geek now...

I have no place to put my books anymore and I wonder if I can fit another bookshelf in my room.Oh,I am reading 2 books by Annie Hawes at the moment.Extra Virgin and Ripe for Picking.I love them!Annie's British and she's been living in Liguria for 15 years so the books are about her adventure and life in Liguria.Sort of like a rougher version of Frances Mayes laa.

I also bought the original DVD of 'Hanazakari No Kimitachi e' at Speedy because I want to keep it cos' it's soo funny & the guys are super kawaii & hottt!!!!Previously I watched it from the dvd from my friend& I fell head over heels for the character Nakatsu Shuichi played by Ikuta Toma(I did a post on him 2 months ago I think...hehehe).I want to buy Honey & Clover(also starring Ikuta Toma) too but I was already broke again by that time...Never mind..my birthday is in 25 days!!!!woooohoooo!!!Turning 21!!!!
